Materials: Students will need: Pre-Calc 12 notebook and practice book -purchase a binder Coil notebook for class notes Looseleaf paper for work Pens/pencils/ruler Calculator (ipod /phone will not be allowed) Graph paper Resources- we will be referring to http://www.math30.ca/index.php quite often in the course Students will be expected to go online and review tutorials previous to lessons in class to be able to get the most guided practice time in class. Assessments: In this course students will be assessed on the Prescribed Learning
outcomes. The primary tools of assessment will be test, quizzes and assignments. Students will be given multiple opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge of each learning outcome.

Effort grades will be determined by the Valleyview Secondary School effort grade
rubric, which can be found on our school website.

Tests: It is expected that students will write tests on the scheduled day. If a student
knows that they will be away they are to make arrangements in advance to write the test at an alternate time. If the student is away they are to write the test on the first available opportunity.

Rewrites: It is expected that students will study and prepare thoroughly for tests.
However, from time to time a student may feel they want to rewrite a test. If a student chooses to rewrite a test they must: (1) Fill out a Request for rewrite form. (2) Show up to the lunch hour AI program for a minimum of two practice / study days before they will be eligible to write the Retest (3) All work from the material being retested will be properly completed (marked and corrected) and handed in to the teacher The retest mark will be the mark for that test, even if it is lower than the first test.

*Extra Help*: I do not have my own classroom this semester.

So it is very important that if students are in need of extra help that they arrange a meeting time with me during independent work time in class. I have decided to be available Tuesday and Thursday lunches in room 101.

Classroom Expectations:
I have very high expectations for all of my students which include everyone working to the best of their potential. We will follow 6 rules for our class: 1) Show up on time- Class starts at the bell, if you are late knock and wait quietly until I have a moment to let you in. 2)

Come prepared- Come to class with all your materials.

Students will not be allowed to leave to get forgotten items. Please use the washroom on your own time; you may ask if it is an emergency.

3)

Do your work- Use class time wisely; this will eliminate any potential for
homework. Work might be completed individually, in partners or groups.

4)

Respect everyone and everything around you-Any disrespectful

or rude language will not be tolerated in class. When anyone is speaking I expect everyone to be quiet and paying attention. If you borrow anything it should be returned in the same condition. Clean up after yourself. If you are caught disrespecting anyone or anything you will have to face the consequences.

5)

No food or drink-Water is allowed in a sealable bottle. If there is a need for

something else you may discuss it with me.

6)

No electronic devices-I expect electronics to be off and out of sight during

instructional time. There may be instances when students may listen to music during individual work time. If I see an electronic being used inappropriately I will take it and it may be returned at some point in the day or referred to administration depending on the nature of the incident.

I intend to keep in contact with you and your parents/guardians on a regular basis via email or phone. If your parents want to reach me the best way is through email sholat@sd73.bc.ca. They can also phone the school at 250-372-5231. I am looking forward to a fabulous semester with you. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to discuss them with myself. Good luck and enjoy your semester! Ms Holat.
