THE PRESENT PROGRESSIVE TENSE, A.K.A.

the GERUND FORM (Ooooh)

Progressive tense ! actions in progress In English, verbs end in ING.

She is walkING.

They are playING.

He is pickING his nose.

In Spanish, verbs end in NDO.

El gato est tocaNDO el piano.

I DONT DO REQUESTS.

l beb est comieNDO.

Ellos estn leyeNDO.

HERES HOW IT WORKS

First, conjugate ESTAR for whoever youre talking about.

estoy ests est estamos estn

First, conjugate ESTAR for whoever youre talking about.

estoy ests est estamos estn

Then, add the present participle form of a verb. English: -ING ending Spanish: -NDO ending

For AR verbs, drop the AR and add ANDO.

hablar ! habl + ando ! hablando

cantar ! cant + ando ! cantando

How about JUGAR?

How about JUGAR? jugar ! ?

For ER and IR verbs, drop the ER/-IR and add IENDO.

correr ! corr + iendo ! corriendo

abrir ! abr + iendo ! abriendo

How about COSER?

How about COSER? coser ! ?

If a verb ends in a vowel after removing its ending (like LEER and OR) will add YENDO.

leer ! le + yendo !

leyendo
(NOT leiendo)

or ! o + yendo !

oyendo
(NOT oiendo)

ir = yendo (presently going)
