Like Bermuda Triangle, Lake Michigan too has come to be known for the unusual number of unexplained disappearances

that have occurred here and it was referred as Lake Michigan Triangle.

Among the most famous was the disappearance of the schooner Thomas Hume which had seven sailors including captain without any trace. No wooden part was found floating which is impossible. In 1921, Schooner Rosa belle with its 11 crew members dead was found floating upside down as though it had collided with another vessel. But no other vessel or any wreck were found nearby.

In 1937, George Donner. The captain of Freighter OM Mcfarland disappeared from his cabin where he was resting. No trace of captain was found. Atleast one aircraft, the northwestern airlines flight 2501. Flying from Newyork to Minneapolis vanished with 58 occupants. Only thing that was found was a blanket with airlines logo floating in lake. Then there was a story of st.Albins, a steamer abandoned by its crew in sinking condition in 30.01.1881. Fisherman were later telling about a ghostly steamship floating without a crew and smoke coming from its stack..

On evening of July12, 1883 the crew of the vessel Mary Mclane said that large blocks of ice as big as bricks falling and denting the wooden deck. Crew brought a 2 pound chunk of ice ashore in the icebox towards proof.

To this date, the mysterious occurrences at the lake Michigan triangle have not been explained.
