1. Creating and making Students are to use media to create a diary entry, which would emphasise what life would be like during 1854 and what it is like now. Students may be prompted by questions on the template handout. 2. Exploring and responding Students are to compare the now and then videos and note down what differences there may be between the two.

5.Which developmental stage (s) would you expect the students to be at? Students in years three and four are typically between the ages of eight to ten so they would be at the gang stage (dawning realism).

7. Materials and Equipment required for the lesson: Gray lead pencils Coloured pencils Erasers Digital Camera A3 paper Computers Headsets Writing paper

Indicate here if you would include work sheets: A work sheet would be handed out to students in the form of a template or dot points to prompt students with their diary entries.

8. Lesson Introduction (whole class focus) Gather class on the floor with a clear view of the teacher Ask students true or false questions -where is this painting from? -is this painting recent? -what do you think this painting is about? -show students the eureka flag, have you seen this before? Why? Have students draw a picture of what Ballarat looks like now in comparison to the painting. Main component of the lesson. Students need to complete diary entries using video recorders about

their daily life and activities.

Assessment of students learning: At the end of the lesson, the students need to gather on the floor in a circle and share with the class what they have learnt. This gives the students a chance to revisit what has been covered in the lesson by sharing knowledge among themselves. It also gives the teacher an indication about what the students have learnt and what to cover in the next lesson.
