PA Common Core Standards: CC.2.4.1.A.2 Tell and write time to the nearest half hour using both analog and digital clocks. I. Performance Objectives: The students will be determine measurements of time by completing a graphic organizer in groups. II. Instructional Materials A. Pearson Success Net: 12-1 Time to the Half Hour and Quarter Hour B. Show What You Know Poster C. Smart Board Brain Pop Jr. D. Units of Time graphic organizer E. Yarn F. Time chant (resources) III. Subject Matter/Content A. Prerequisite Skills a. Time to the hour and minute B. Key Vocabulary a. Second smallest unit of time b. Minute 60 seconds c. Hour 60 minutes d. Day 24 hours e. Week 7 days

f. Year 52 weeks C. Big Idea: Triangles IV. Implementation A. Introduction a. On Show What You Know poster, ask students how many seconds are in one hour? 1. This will serve as a pre-assessment for the rest of the lesson.

B. Development a. Open Brain Pop Jr: Time to the minute for review. 1. Play video. 2. Students will take a five-question quiz (attached) before the lesson as a review of the past three days. b. After quiz, students will work independently until all have finished. c. To start the lesson, we will sing the time chant (see resources). How many seconds in a minute? Sixty, any way you spin it! How many minutes in an hour? Sixty minutes, dont be sour! How many hours in a day? Twenty-four for work and play. How many days in a week? Seven will help you reach your peak! How many weeks in a year? Fifty-two and all is clear!

d. Pass out graphic organizer. Students will cut these apart and put them in the right order.

e. Once the teacher has checked, the student can proceed to make a mobile out of the time units. f. Students will copy units of time into their notebooks.

C. Closure a. Begin to play one minute, three minute, and five minute game. 1. Students will choose which bag they would like to complete. 2. Students will flip over with teacher prompt.

Students can work together in table teams to create the times on their clocks. 3. Model proper time on front of board. 4. Color in proper amount of time on the board. D. Accommodations/Differentiation a. For F, M, and L: provide the second sheet of the units of time in addition to the first sheet.
