August 2013 To: All Seventh Grade Students and Parents/Guardians From: Barry W.

Olson, Superintendent of Blooming Prairie High School Reason: Seventh Grade Orientation Blooming Prairie High School will be having an orientation session for all 7 grade students and students new to the district on Wednesday, August 28,2013. This is a great opportunity for students new to our building to come and learn where everything is, find their lockers, meet their teachers, receive their iPad for the year, and get acquainted. We encourage all students and parents to take advantage of this opportunity. This year we will continue our iPad initiative for our school. All students will be receiving iPads for their main instructional instrument. These iPads will be handed out to the seventh grade students on the 28 after the orientation schedule is completed. In order for the students to receive their iPad, they must have read the iPad policy, which can be found online on our website. Students will have to pay their technology fee of $50, or the reduced rate if their family qualifies. Finally the students will have to turn in a signed iPad Student Pledge Form. All this can be done on the day of orientation. Before the iPads are handed out, Mi'. Olson, Mr. Worke, and Mr. Vigeland will discuss the use of these instruments, the policies and concerns of the administration, and answer questions associated with the use of iPads. This will be a very informative session so please plan on attending.

The Annual Emergency Contact Form and the Annual Health Information Form were sent to you last spring. It is very important that these forms be filled out and returned to the high school office each year. We have included a space for an e-mail address on the Emergency Contact Form. It is useful to have an e-mail address for each student for teachers to contact parents, sending out report cards and notifying when lunch accounts are overdue. Those students needing to turn in immunization records should bring that information to the orientation also. The school nurse will be available to check records. The last form is the project iPad Student Pledge, which will need to be turned in before they receive their iPad. This year we will be serving lunch. Lunches will be charged to the students account. Parents can eat also at the adult price and will also be added to the students account. Our lunch program will be discussed during the general meeting with Mr. Olson. Lunch information will be available when you check in that day. On the following page is the schedule for the orientation:
