REFLECTION WEEK 4 BY : ANIS WARDAH YUSRI

LECTURE As for the fourth week for lecture, Madam Zuraihan gave a lecture on pedagogical principles of teaching songs and poetry to young learners. Even though we had learnt a bit about the principles from last semester, yet it was still fun to know the elements in teaching Language Arts from songs and poetries perspective. We got to know many new songs and poetry which are suitable for childrens level. Our lecturer emphasizes on the important of being open-minded when we are with the students. It does not mean that we need to be so open until it involves with the sensitive issues for some people. For example, if the teach about Animals in The Farm, it is not wrong for us to teach about pigs/piglets which for some people are very close-minded with. It is important for young learners to be exposed with these kinds of things. Besides than letting the pupils know about their own culture, they can also know the others as well. This may give them an early alert about other culture and beliefs in life which leads to a harmonies country. TUTORIAL As for this week, we continued our presentation about the genres in songs. It was amazing to know what music can do in making our life more interesting. When we learnt about the various type of music that we have in the industry, we can imagine the excitement with the variety music that we can use to attract the students in class. As future teachers, it is very crucial for us to know and be exposed with the variety of genre of music so that we will not stick on one type of genre and be more creative in teaching. This may help to rejuvenate the aesthetic parts in our students besides that developing the language as well.
