What we learned about health and wellness programs in FBISD

Any school could apply - appl. due May 2013 5 criteria needed - 3 mandatory
Wellness Committee Campus Wide Activity Campus Wellness Night Including 2 of the following: Non-food reward, tobacco prevention, core curriculum, WATCH health fair and staff wellness

100% of all WATCH survey respondents:
Had an active Wellness Committee
6 Wellness Committees were launched during the 2012-2013 school year

Hosted a Wellness Event


Approximately 400 students attended the Barrington Place Elementary Wellness Event Over 3300 students and 2200 parents & community members across the 12 school responding schools participated in Wellness Events

WATCH survey results


15 schools offered a campus-wide activity, including:
Marathon Kids @ Barrington Place Elementary Jump Rope for Heart @ Sugar Mills Elementary Diabetes Walk @ Meadows Elementary Family Fun Fitness Evening @ Lakeview Elementary Boosterthon Fun Run @ Dulles Elementary 75% schools still had WATCH week walks!

WATCH survey results


As a result of the campus-wide activities provided across the 15 schools, the following milestones were achieved:
On average, each student logged-in nearly 94,000 minutes of additional activity during the 2012-2013 school year

Over 7500 students & 700 staff members participated in the campus-wide activity offerings

During the 2012-2013 year:
100% survey respondents offered non-food based awards on their campus, including
Extra Recess @ Heritage Rose Elementary Jeans Day @ Missouri City Middle Principals Club @ Ridgemont Elementary Springo Bingo @ Dulles Elementary

13 of the 14 survey respondents integrated nutrition and physical activity into core classes

12 campuses offered on-campus Wellness Programs for staff during the 2012-2013 school year Across the 12 campuses, over 600 staff participated in the Wellness Program Activities and events included:
Biggest Loser Yoga Club @ Oyster Creek Elementary Healthy Living Series @ Missouri City Middle Stress seminar & Relay for Life @ Highlands Elementary
