    A 35-year-old male with a history of alcohol abuse suffered a spinal cord injury at the C3 level from an accident, which compromised blood flow and tissue perfusion, initiated an inflammation process, and led to ischemia, nerve fiber swelling and disintegration, decreased oxygen supply, tissue necrosis, destruction of myelin and axons, and complete severing of the spinal cord.
