MRS. MOHRS CLASS

IPADS!
I am pleased to announce that the rst and 1/2 multiage classes received a large grant, where we were able to receive 50 iPads to share, which breaks down to 9 per classroom (one teacher had a few from a previous grant)! The last few weeks, we have been working hard as a team to set up the iPads to best meet the needs of the kids, and personalize their learning. The iPads are now ofcially set up, and we will begin using them today during our learning time. I am thrilled that we have these devices for the kids to use as tools for learning. I hope that the kids will share with you some of the learning that they are doing on them.

As your child is reading, help them gure out clues that are in the story that arent told to them directly. For instance, if the sentence read, It was a warm, hot, day... they would know that it must be summer. By learning how to infer, your child is gaining a deeper level of understanding to the story.

Our reading strategy of the month is: Inferring

Student Teacher

We will be having a student teacher join our class on Monday, March 31. Her name is Samantha Charles, and she is currently working in Mr. OBriens fourth grade classroom. I know she is doing a wonderful job, and we are excited for her to join our classroom at the end of March. I will include her contact information once she begins working in our room.

Katie McKy Math

Author Katie McKy came on Thursday and did an amazing lesson on persuasive writing with the kids. The class was so excited to write and nish the stories she worked on with them. We will be nishing them up, and sharing their pieces at portfolio conferences.

We nished up another math unit this week, and ofcially began our eighth math unit of the year. Today, I will be introducing fact families, and looking at how three numbers can form two addition and two subtraction problems. I also continue to meet with differentiated math groupings.

I still have a few families that need to sign up for portfolio conferences. Please remember that your child does attend these with you. They will be showing off some of the great work they have done this year. To access the sign-up, please go to: http:// vols.pt/AxmbcQ. As always, if the times/dates dont work for you, please contact me directly, and we will set up an alternate time.
