Free write for 5 minutes: One invention I cannot live without is Share responses Watch All About the Renaissance Part Two on United Streaming. Students will complete worksheet as they read. Stop video to discuss important information. Divide student in half and participate in the printing press activity. Every student gets a partner, on side one there are the printers and the printers assistants. Printers will be stamping papers to create as many copies of a particular image. Assistants will take the paper and place new ones down. Students on side two will be drawing the same image as he printers, by hand. Assistants will still provide the paper. Discuss the importance of the printing press: how it made information more accessible and was an important information.

Students will: Practice observing and analyzing the details of a work of art. Learn to formulate individual opinions based on observation. Understand how differing opinions can be based on analyzing a work of art (or person or event) from another person's point of view. Learn to use facts to back up an argument or prove a point.

Show a Renaissance painting on the board. Journal Response: Write a short story to accompany this picture. What is going on here? Free write for 5 minutes. Share responses Read background section of Renaissance Connection lesson while using active reading strategies. Discuss the importance of Art in the time period.

INSTRUCTION/ REVIEW 15-20 min CONTENT ACTIVTY Display a Renaissance painting on the Smart board. (Possibly The Bean Eater) Use brainstorming questions to discuss differing points of view for the subject and the painter. Create class notes

Have students view Renaissance paintings in pairs. With a partner they need to create two lists from different points of view (Subject and Painter) on how people would feel or react while the painting was being made.

GROUP ACTIVITY

Renaissance recipe: Have students try to translate the recipe from the Renaissance. Go over as a class, see how close students were Introduce activity: Students will be completing seven stations on Renaissance life: Art, Architecture, Social Classes, Science and Inventions, Music and Dance, Fashion and Food. They will have eight minutes to complete the reading and explore the various parts of each station. Have students number off 1-7 to divide up into stations.
