SLIPWAY

9TH INTAKE SWA

Slipping is a one of method used for docking of a ship to attend her refits & under water repairs.

The slip way is inclined for a small tangent consists with a main cradle moving on rail path.

The main cradle is the most important part fabricated by wooden or steel and rigid to withstand the weight of the ship.

The pulling and lowering is done by connecting steel wire ropes to massive winch incorporated with a power generator.

Firstly we have to remove all the additional weights such as Gun mounts Oil barrels And also we have to empty the all tanks such as Fuel tank Oil tank Water tank We have to lock the propeller also
7

Then the main cradle with pre arranged slipping chocks is lowering to the place where the craft is floating. When the cradle is brought to the underneath of craft the position of first and last chocks are marked with the help of the divers.
8

Then the craft is tightening to the cradle by pulley ropes, already arranged on cradle. Also the craft is centering to the cradle.
The craft then slowly move up and make observation by the divers till the craft rest on chocks.
9

Any inclination of craft towards port or starboard to be corrected as possible.

The process is stop and checks the slipping of craft as soon as the craft rest on chocks.

10

If observed no defect the process is kept on continuous. When the cradle reached the correct position brake is applied and additional shores are erected as appropriate.

To attend her refits

To under water maintains To emergency repairs such as Collision Grounding Enemy attack Rope winding with propeller
13

Under water washing to remove marine growth & bangles. Under water painting.

14

15

Advantages:

Simple method Low cost Can use in emergency situation

16

Disadvantages:
Slipping weight depends on the capacity of the winch. Process is slower than other methods. Less safety. we have to make separate chocks for each ships.
