Definition of Mysore:

Mysore is located at 1230N 7665E and has an average altitude of 770 meters (2,526 ft). It is situated in the southern region of the state of Karnataka, at the base of the Chamundi Hills;

As on oct. 27th 2013 the concept of Greater Mysore entailed bringing 41 villages under 18 gram panchayats within the jurisdictional limits of the MCC. Consequently, the area coming under the MCC authority would increase from 128.42 sq km to more than 298 sq km. It would also increase the number of wards from 65 to 100. As per provisional reports of Census India, population of Mysore in 2011 is 887,446; of which male and female are 443,813 and 443,633 respectively. In education section, total literates in Mysore city are 702,896 of which 363,157 are males while 339,739 are females. Average literacy rate of Mysore city is 86.84 percent of which male and female literacy was 89.96 and 83.73 percent. Metropolitan areas in mysore: Alanahalli, Belvata, Bhogadi, Chamundibetta, Dattagalli, Hebbalu, Hinkal, Hutagalli, Lingambudi, Metagalli, Mysore, Sathagalli, and Srirampura Area: 128.4 sq.kms
