SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF LORENZO FERRER FIGUERAS Born in Barcelona, Spain on 21 November 1920. Doctor in Mathematics, Associate Professor at University of Barcelona (19471959). Full Professor of Theoretical Mechanics at the University of Valencia (19591987). Full Professor of Differential Equations at the School of Agricultural Engineers (19651975). Professor Emeritus at the University of Valencia (19872010). Twice Recipient of the Torres Quevedo Award (1953 and 1956). Winner of the Valencia Innovation Research & Development category Award in 1989.

Founder and Director of the School of Operations Research at the University of Valencia (19651991). Introduced the Operational Research and Systems Theory in the University of Valencia (between 1962 and 1969). President of the Spanish Society of General Systems (19942010). Dean of the Faculties of Science and Mathematics (between 1975 and 1987). Taught Several Hundred Courses in the Faculties of Sciences: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, and so on. Winner of the University of Valencias Gold Medal Award in 2005. Died in Valencia on 5 November 2010.
