The task is especially challenging when the teachers themselves dont have a particularly strong grasp of mathematical principles.

Math isnt hard, Teaching it is makes it hard. - Robyn Urback Teaching of Math is indeed a difficult thing to do. Math

is often purely abstract, but kids do often learn better when the math is made more real-world for them, so they can see how the abstract tools that they learn are used in the real world. I had one kid who was terrible at math, and one day I caught him doing a football play-by-mail game in class. We looked at the game, and of course, it was math heavy and he had no problem doing it because it was interesting to him. That is why we cannot ignore math in the real world, but similarly we cannot ignore the abstract aspects of math, or the basic number facts that act as the foundation.
Reflection For many such students, math is only a set of formulas that they must learn and manipulate to obtain numerical answers. In everyday life, many problems are best addressed through logic and analysis, but they are often too complex to be reduced to the form of a typical math problem. Yet a new discovery and an add up to your vocabulary will form. While surfing the net to find the answers/solutions to the problems, I have found out that learning math is really fun. Mathematics is full of surprises like for example; if you try to read the brain teasers you wont expect the answer. At first you might think that your answer is right but then out of nowhere youll realize that your answer is wrong and then you just find yourself reading it again to clarify things and to know why things happened and to why the brainbasher did come out of that answer. In the midst of my research I learned the essential elements that make the discussion effective and how to engage students in learning the concepts and activities that were presented. That has to do with the appropriate strategies the facilitator of learning should have.
