Q1.Answer any Three parts of the following Note:Q.1(a) is Compulsory (35=15)

(a) Find the following expression for pressure distribution (for sliding friction ) for forging of a rectangular block(bhw) and show the variation p/2k = exponential ((-2/h) (x-b/2)) Where p is the pressure at a distance x from center, k is shear strength of material and is the coefficient of sliding friction, h the height and b the width. (b) A circular disc of 150 mm diameter and 10mm thick is compressed between two dies. Determine the sticking radius and total load on the dies. Assume = 0.2, and tensile yield stress to be 210 MPa. (c) Explain open and closed die forging with their advantages and limitations. What is the role of flash in closed die forging? (d) Derive the expression for drawing stress xa for wire drawing through a conical die with 2 die angle and coefficient of friction as : xa = (1+B)/B {1-(Da/Db)2B} Where B=cot . (e) What is extrusion? Explain their types and defect of extrusion?
Q2.Answer any Three parts of the following (35=15)

a) Describe some common rolling defects. Also indicate remedial measures.

b) Prove that the maximum possible draft in case of strip rolling can be expressed as: (hb-ha)= 2 R If friction condition for unaided entry of the work piece is satisfied. Where hb and ha are the thickness of strip before and after rolling respectively. = coefficient of friction between roll and strip R=radius of roll c) A wide strip is rolled to a final thickness of 6 mm with a reduction of 30%. The roll radius is 500 mm and the coefficient of friction is 0.2. Determine the neutral plane. d) Explain in brief major effect of friction in forming operations and also the role of lubrication in forming operations.
