Setting: Pre Gilded Age/post World War One.1920s, Economic Boom. After World War One, economy rose with advertising. Who: Nick Carraway- the narrator of the story, cousin to Daisy Daisy Buchanan- the wife of Tom and Gatsbys love Jay Gatsby- millionaire who throws enormous parties, everyone in town heard of him, but not much have seen him What: Role of women changed prohibition - parties, alcohol, sexual behavior Where: West Egg, Long Island. New York Gatsbys luxurious mansion, with the view of the dock. When: Every weekend, Gatsby would throw enormous parties with people from all over New York came in. Why: Gatsby threw the extravagant parties to try to rekindle with the love of his life, Daisy. Daisy was the desirable yet beautiful flapper.

Prohibition in The Great Gatsby

The 18th Amendment prohibited the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcohol. Implemented due to the fact Production, importation, and distribution of alcohol was taken over by organized crime, causing an increase in crime.

Dancing in the Jazz Age


There was dancing now on the canvas in the garden; old men pushing young girls back in eternal graceless circles, superior couples holding each other tortuously, fashionably, and keeping in the corners- and a great number of single girls dancing individualistically (p.46)

CONCLUSION
During the 1920s, Americans prosperity and pleasure fall into the extreme of decadence. The end of World War I emancipated people whose appetite for pleasure was repressed. Seeking to fulfill their desire, freewheeling jazz, and partying dance like Charleston begin to prevail in prosper society.
