Probably you've already watched or at least heard of the new version of "Psycho", from 1998, and as far as I can tell, there are two audiences for this film: those who have seen Hitchcock's classic thriller and are curious about the remake, and those who haven't reviously seen it but are willin! to !ive this new edition a shot because it features actors they "know" and the a roach, they think, should be more off"the"wall# Personally, I fit into the first cate!ory, but I must confess this was the last time I !ave credit to these unworthy successors# $ith minor modern"day chan!es %includin! filmin! it in full colour&, 'us (an )ant's imitation is essentially the same film with a different cast, alon! with the same *ernard Hermann music and +ose h )tefano's screen lay# "Psycho" was and still is the story of ,arion -rane %now layed by .nne Heche&, an adulterous woman who steals money from her boss ho in! for financial freedom, who ends u brutally stabbed in that over"analy/ed scene in movie history# )uccessful remakes take older material and do somethin! new, interestin!, and intelli!ent with it# 0nfortunately, from my oint of view, this wasn't the case, since we all know, whereas a rare few mana!e to ecli se their ins irations, most tend to be cliches# 1n the other hand, after watchin! ")hinin!", on my 2n!lish teacher's recommendation, I 3ust felt a !reat sense of content that I didn't waste 4 hours of my recious time# +ack 5icholson's dis lay was sim ly over"the to , because even if his !radual descent into sheer madness seems 6uite far"fetched, there's a stran!e credibility in his erformance that kee s you on the ed!e of your seat, such lo!ic seemin! almost irrelevant# 7irector )tanley 8ubrick !enerally sticks to the ori!inal )te hen 8in!'s novel, but brin!s to the story his own universally lauded brand of visual erfection, not to mention his memorable eerie, bloody scenes, which sent countless chills down my s ine# I don't want to unravel any of the lot or the underlyin! riddles and symbols, since I totally ut my ho es in you, thinkin! you have the "shiny" mind not to miss relishin! this master iece#
