Podcast Lesson 4 Cameron Jade Brannon Yarbrough Lesson Plan 6th Grade Mathematics Title/Information Area, Surface Area,

ea, and Volume Podcast 60 students Common Core Standards CCGPS.M.6.G.1 - Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems. CCGPS.M.6.G.4 - Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems. Essential Question What strategies, properties of shapes, and formulas must I know in order to find the area of triangles, squares, and rectangles? Learning Objective (A) The student will be able to (B) select important information based on their personal knowledge in order to create a review podcast (C) given a specific rubric (D) while achieving a score of 70% or better when taking assessments of others. Instructional Framework Warm up and copy in agenda Show the class an example of the finished product Show students how to complete a podcast and record voices Go over rules and expectations of the assignment and technology use Explain the rubric used for grading Pick topics Work on projects Materials Technology (i.e. computer lab, iPads, laptops, etc) Recording device Internet connection Learning Strategies Engage Students will be engaged since this assignment uses a combination of technological resources (i.e. podcasts, powerpoints, etc.) Elicit Students will elicit their own information by recalling prior knowledge in addition to connecting new topics. Explore Students will explore their own learning by teaching other students about their topic. Explain Students will explain and summarize what they have learned throughout the area and volume unit. Elaborate Students will be expected to provide definitions, example problems, and key vocabulary in order to help communicate their topic.

Evaluate Students will be able to self-evaluate their work by using the rubric as a reference. Students will be formally graded by the teacher once they finish. The teacher will use the same rubric for grading. Extend The entire podcast is an extension to what students have been learning throughout the unit. Assessment for Learning Successful completion of the podcast with the assigned topic An average score of 70% or better on the associated summative assessments Differentiation Students who finish early will be asked to incorporate more sound effects and/or visuals. Higher level students will be allowed to work individually if they so desire while lower level learners will be paired with another student. Podcast is provided in addition to the text being displayed on the screen. This will help accommodate different learning styles. DOK Level Level 4 Students are designing, connecting, and creating. Homework Finish project by the assigned due date.
