Lucy Gillett Tuesday 3/4/14 Lesson Focus: Bump and Set Mary Murray Agawam High School For

r this lesson, I think my planning and preparation overall was good. I thought that I planned out the transitions really well. The students were able to move from partner work into their teams and then into a game situation nice and smoothly. One thing that I think I need to improve is looking at the space that I have in the gym and figure out where I am going to want the students to partner up before I start the lesson. I think I need to work on visualizing my lesson before I start. As for Lesson content I think I did well with making sure I had enough activities and did not overload or underload the lesson. One thing that I think I need to work on is including more demonstrations from both myself and from students. I need to make sure the game is properly demonstrated to everyone. For transitions and classroom management I need to improve on my collection of equipment. I had the students place the balls against the walls which is not a good idea. I should have had them place them on the bleachers so that they are out of the way and not a safety issue. One thing I did well with my transitions was making sure the students knew when to put their ball away when we were switching activities. My content delivery today was overall good. I think I did well explaining the skill cues and what to look for when doing both a bump and set. One thing I need to work on is my closure. I asked the students what they thought of the lesson, which set me up for no answer. I need to stick to the questions that I had planned in order to get the feedback/answers that I want. I think that my feedback to the students was extremely good today. I walked around the gym and stopped at individuals that I saw needed some help. I provided them with a lot of positive corrective feedback and made sure the students understood the corrections I was making. One improvement I need to make is giving general feedback to the class. I need to stop the class when I notice a feedback that I have given a couple of times in order to make sure that everyone understands. The feedback I received from my cooperating teacher was good. Mrs. Murray told me that the activity was great. She liked how even though it took a slower start I was able

to energize the students and make it exciting. One thing I need to improve on is my classroom management by making sure the volleyballs are correctly put away, not left on the side. While teaching today I learned that even if an activity starts off slow and not how you envisioned it, there are always ways to improve it on the spot. I was able to make the game more competitive by counting the passes that each team was making and by giving feedback. When I would tell a student that I liked their hustle, more students would hustle and work harder. I also learned that I should take advantage of the entire space that I have to work with. I kept the students cramped on one side of the gym. Even though it seemed like enough space, there was plenty of space for me to spread them out to allow them extra room and decrease the risk of any injuries.
