Numeracy in Action AT1 Group Meeting - Friday 28th February 2014

Topic 1:

Introduction and welcome to group members

Each group member introduced themselves and provided a brief overview of their experience and understanding of school mathematics and personal mathematic philosophy. It was agreed that personal views shape our decisions in regards to how we teach and learn mathematics. Group members exchanged their full names and contact details. It was decided that Friday at 11:30am was a convenient time to conduct future weekly meetings.

Topic 2:

Assessment Task Details and Description

Each group member examined the Assessment Task Sheet and expressed their understanding of task requirements. Group members clarified any differences of understandings. Group members are in agreement of assessment requirements. A brief outline of weekly requirements was created to ensure the task will be completed collaboratively by Wednesday 9th April 2014. Task Due Date: Week 6 Friday (11-Apr-2014) 5pm.

Topic 3:

ACARA Strand and Year Level

Group members individually examined the three mathematical strands across F 7 year levels: 1. Number and Algebra 2. Probability and statistics 3. Measurement and Geometry

The group discussed preferences and ideas for strand selection. It was concluded that all group members were in agreement to select the Measurement and Geometry strand. In addition, the group decided to engage in further individual research of P 2 Measurement and Geometry strand before finalising year level selection.

Topic 4:

Collaborative on-line Platform

Group members discussed advantages, disadvantages, personal experiences, knowledge and technical abilities in relation to several online platforms suitable for the collaborative assessment task. Based upon suitability criteria for communication and accessibility, a unanimous decision was reached on creating a Weebly. Group members then proceeded to collaborative create a Weebly site.
