Unit Plan: Block Plan Day 1: Teacher starts off by giving a little history of the game. Next he will explain a few of the basic rules. Then he will split up the class into few teams and have them play modified games without them really knowing how to play. After about 15-20 minutes of play the teacher will stop the games and gather up the students. He will then explain to them some tactics and skills that can be used to increase the excitement and competitiveness. Day 2: This lesson the students will learn and practice two of the skills used in Sepak Takraw. They will first learn the inside kick. They will practice it for a little bit using a hacky sack. Then they will learn the Knee/ Thigh Kick and once again practice it with a hacky sack. They will end the class in groups of three trying to combine both skills. Day 3: See pages 10, 11, 12 Day 4: This lesson will start off with a few drills to reinforce the inside kick, the thigh kick and the front of foot kick. Then they will learn how to head the ball and when it should be used. A soccer ball will be used for heading the ball. The class will end with a few heading drills. Day 5: This lesson will start off with a review of the header. Then the teacher will teach some offensive strategy including positioning of players and tactics to make the game more competitive. The class will end with a modified game where the opposing teams are working together to try and keep a rally going. Since they have not learned to serve yet students will just toss the ball over the net to start. Day 6: See Pages 13, 14, 15 Day 7: In this lesson the Sepak Takraw ball will be added in to passing. Students will start out getting used to this new ball. Then they will pass it around in a group using all the skills. Serving will also be reviewed. At the end of class a modified game will be played where students serve the ball over the net. Like the modified game on day 5, opposing teams will be working together, however this time teams must have a three hit combination for the possession to count. Day 8: This lesson will emphasize defense. Students will learn different defensive skills as well as positioning when on defense. Teams will also be assigned for the tournament on the last class. Toward the end of class students will get into their teams and elect a captain, co-captain, and Trainer. Also they will come up with a team name and color. Day 9: See Page 16, 17, 18 Day 10: This is the final day of the unit. On this day there will be a tournament played between all six teams. Teams will warm up together in the beginning of class and then the games will start. Only two games will be played at a time and the two teams that are sitting out will officiate these games. The teacher will be overseeing both games. This will conclude the Sepak Takraw unit.
