Fountain Valley High School Classroom Expectations Subject: Algebra II Room: B-1 Phone: (714) 962-3301 ext.

4801 Teacher: Mrs. Murray E-mail: lmurray@hbuhsd.edu Major Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to provide students with methods to efficiently solve problems. The "real life" value of algebra as a problem-solving tool is emphasized through applications, reasoning, geometric models and the use of technology. Student Conduct in Class: Students are expected to show respect for themselves and all others in the classroom. All school policies on tardiness and attendance will be followed. Consequences for Misconduct: I have high expectations and standards for every student in the class. Although I do not expect there will be any problems, the following consequences will be enforced for disruptive behavior. After the first offense the student will be given a verbal warning, after the second a detention, and after the third a phone call home. Tests and Quizzes: One test and one quiz will be given for each chapter covered. Students who miss tests or quizzes must arrange for make-up tests to be taken on their own time before school, after school or during lunch. Students will be given one week to make up tests and quizzes, after that they will receive a zero. Grading Policy: Grades will be determined based on a point system. Every test is worth 100 points, quizzes are 50 points, notebook quizzes are 20 points, and homework is 5 points each. Projects will also be assigned, they may be individual or partner and their point value will depend on how in-depth the projects are. Students will also be given the opportunity to earn bonus points for class participation or for correctly answering challenge problems. The grade scale will be 100-90 A, 89-80 B, 79-70 C, 69-60 D, below 60 F. Homework Policy: Homework is assigned almost every night and is discussed the following day. Because mathematics requires practice, this homework is very important to a student's success. Homework is graded on effort, not the number of right or wrong answers and is to be kept in a math notebook. Every problem is to be attempted to be considered complete. Each assignment is worth 5 points; completed assignments will be given a stamp. Homework packets will be collected at the end of each chapter on the test day. Homework is to be completed in pencil. Make-up Policy: Since attendance is so important to learning mathematics, a student who misses class or does not do homework can never completely make up what he/she has missed. When absent, it is the student's responsibility to find out what he has missed from the assignments listed online, another student, or me. Students who miss tests or quizzes must arrange for make-up tests to be taken on their own time before school, after school or during lunch. Class Materials: Students are expected to have textbook, two notebooks (one for notes and one for homework), homework, and pencil in class each day. Scientific or graphing calculators are highly recommended but not essential.
