Name a play or film you have studied in which a disagreement occurs.

Name the film and explain how the scene unfolded.

The film I have chosen is Witness by Peter Weir. The scene I have selected is when Rachel Lapp, an Amish woman and ohn !oo", an American police officer are in the barn. #li, Rachels father wal"s in to find them passionately dancin$ to$ether. A disa$reement then occ%rs between Rachel and her father. In the lead %p to this scene, &am%el, Rachels son has witnessed the m%rder of a police officer at the train station. ohn !oo", an American police officer is investi$atin$ a m%rder case and ret%rns to the Amish comm%nity as he is hidin$ from the police officers and he has also been shot. ohn !oo" is loyal, carin$ and has a stron$ sense of '%stice. While in the barn tryin$ to fi( his car with Rachels help, ohn s%ddenly $ets the radio wor"in$ and one of his favo%rite son$s comes on the radio called Wonderf%l World. There has been a stron$ physical connection between them from the start of the film. &%ddenly, in a moment of passion, ohn ta"es Rachel and they be$in to dance aro%nd the barn. This intimacy is clearly capt%red in the way they loo" at each other and almost "iss several times. )owever, Rachels father #li enters and is shoc"ed at seein$ Rachels behavio%r with ohn. &he r%ns o%t of the barn with #li followin$ her. They both have an ar$%ment with #li tellin$ Rachel that everyone is tal"in$ abo%t her and that ohn !oo". )e tells her she will be ostracised from the comm%nity and that she had better not shame him. Rachel replies *o% shame yo%rself and wal"s away. This disa$reement shoc"ed me as %p %ntil this, #li and his da%$hter have a very lovin$ relationship. The film represents two very different worlds of r%ral Amish and city life b%t this scene in partic%lar hi$hli$hts the stron$ Amish c%lt%re and beliefs "nown as the ordn%n$ a code of cond%cts maintained by the Amish.
