Stage 2 Program

Science and Technology Mathematics

Term 1
Whole number Counts, orders, reads & represents two & three digit numbers. Time Reads & records time in one minute intervals and makes comparisons between time units Addition and Subtraction- Uses a range of mental strategies & informal recording methods for + and involving one and two digit numbers Multiplication and Division- Uses a range of mental strategies
and concrete materials for multiplication and division

Connection focus: knowing what it means to be part of a unified and changing community. Significant events and contributions made by ourselves and others contribute to our heritage, our values and our Australian identities.

Connected Outcomes
English
Students will continue to explore persuasive texts, including discussion and exposition. Students will also consolidate writing descriptive texts. There will be a continued focus on visual literacy, locating information in a variety of texts. Each class will complete a novel study with a focus on inferential understanding with the super six comprehension strategies.

Science and Technology outcomes are addressed in other units within this Stage. There are no Science and Technology outcomes linked to this unit.

Students will be engaged in:


Talking & Listening, Reading, Writing a variety of text types to develop critical literacy skills. Students will be expected to apply higher order thinking when producing written texts and when comprehending and analysing texts written by others. All strands of mathematics. Students will be expected to use higher order thinking to complete maths algorithms and increasingly complex problem solving.
analysing an information product and reflection of the design process participating in music activities analysing students visual representations presenting a mobile that reflects personal values explaining the symbols on civic values shield

Author purpose and perspective both in novels and poetry will be explored.

2D Shapes - Manipulates, compares, sketches and names 2D shapes& describes their features Area- Estimate, measures, compares & records the area of surfaces in cm and m Patterns and Algebra - Generates, describes and records number patterns using a variety of strategies and completes simple number sentences by calculating missing values Position- Uses simple maps and grids to represent position and follow routes Length- Estimates, measures, compares and records lengths,
distances & perimeters in metres, centimetres & mm

Creative Arts
In the arts, students explore representations of self-identity, particularly in relation to others. The personal style of how images are represented may reflect aspects of personal identity which may or may not be exhibited in other aspects of their lives. The most obvious way to represent identity in art is through portraiture.

HSIE
Students develop an understanding of a shared Australian identity through the exploration of the roles of individuals, families and groups that contribute to communities. Students research significant symbols of state and national identity and examine a range of community groups. Inquiries are inclusive of Aboriginal communities and heritage. Students examine how a sense of being Australian has changed over time and has been influenced by significant events, particularly in the local area. Through these inquiries, students develop an understanding of their own identity and values related to being Australian.

2D Angles- Identifies, compares and describes angles in practical situations Money- Compares, orders and calculates with decimals, simple fractions and simple percentages

PDHPE
Students explore their own identity through the development of values and recognition of themselves and others as unique individuals. Anti-bullying Fundamental Movement Skills Health Hustle Stage Sport

Students learn about how they connect to different local and national groups in society through dance and music.
