Traditionally, we had to simplify the complexity and richness of the real world to constrained computer models and languages. Now embedded, mobile, and fixed sensors as well as human in-the-loop citizen sensing, social computing, and ubiquitous Web access work in concert to provide a rich context for recognizing events and to support situational awareness.
