Campus/District: West Date: 2/25/14 Mesquite High School/MISD Overall Goal of Lesson: The student will learn how to create an Easter Basket in Microsoft Publisher. Instructional Objectives: The students will be evaluated based on their knowledge and creativity of creating a picture in Microsoft Publisher using shapes. The students Easter Basket will be based off of the model I present to them and work through as a group. Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) & ELPS: 130.114. Business Information Management I (One Credit). (7) The student applies data entry techniques to enter information in databases. The student is expected to: A. Access information in the database system; B. Build data in a data warehouse; C. Create a meaningful data set; D. Enter data into databases, tables, and forms; E. Edit data in databases, tables, and forms; F. Create an interface user form for easier entry of data; and G. Import and export databases. Higher Order Questions: 1. Distinguish between the differences in using Microsoft Publisher from Microsoft Word. 2. Transform shapes into an image using the techniques discussed in the lesson. 3. Construct an Easter Basket with eggs from shapes, formatting, and editing techniques in Microsoft Publisher. Student Activities: The students will be creating an Easter Basket in Microsoft Publisher as I go along and model it for them. They will be creative and imaginative and find fun ways to make their basket unique. Modifications/ELL Strategies Anticipatory Activity for Lesson: -Look up the definition for the 3 STAAR Vocabulary More Class time for words, type each definition, and write a sentence for each assignment/tests Visual and Spoken Instructions word using the vocabulary word in the sentence. Time Teacher Input/Lesson Activity: The students will complete their notes worksheet as I present an introductory presentation on how Microsoft Publisher can be used to transform a shape into an image. The students will learn the basic terminology and concepts of Publisher through the presentation and guided practice. The lesson includes information on inserting shapes, editing, rotating, designing, creating, and formatting shapes into a picture. From the content provided in the presentation, the students will complete their own picture of an Easter Basket in Microsoft Publisher.

Modeling: I will give a demonstration of how to create an Easter Basket from a bunch of different shapes and techniques in Microsoft Publisher. Guided Practice: The students will create an Easter Basket as I review the steps with them. Independent Practice: The students will complete their Easter Basket on their won and begin creating a picture of a Cartoon Character of choice using the shapes and techniques discussed in Publisher. Lesson Closure: The students will discuss what they have learned in Microsoft Publisher so far and how/why it is different from Microsoft Word. Assessment Methods/Strategies: There will be no closure activity today. Resources (supplies, equipment, software, etc.): Computer Microsoft Publisher Printer

Reflection: I will help the students with determining which shapes work best for what they are trying to accomplish instead of learning it so open ended. Some students need more guidance and structure; they sometimes face difficulties when having to think independently. I think this will help them to grasp the concept and learn how to be creative with the shapes, teaching them that thinking out of the box can create a unique picture.
