Jarred Altfillisch Classroom Management Plan Creating a Safe Learning Environment Constructivism and the control theory of motivation.

. I believe that more students will behave better if they have some say into the rules that they have to fallow. The first day of the year each individual class will sit down and create the class rules Some guidance will be supplied by the teacher to make sure the important rules are covered. Students will also help come up with the consequences that they will have to face for misbehavior If students help create the whole plan how can they complain that something isnt fair. During activity time I expect each student to be engaged in activity and to be fallowing all of the rules during the activities.

Behavioral rules (Hierarchy of Discipline) Rules

Be positive towards your classmates Treat others as you would like to be treated Avoid walking away angry if at all possible Communicate with you classmates how you feel if you are angry but stay respectful Respect myself and all of my subs Respect yourself and other classmates Consequences For less serious misbehavior 1. Verbal warning 2. Sit out of the activity for 5 minutes 3. Sit out of the entire next class 4. Go to the principals office 5. Student, parents, principal and myself have a meeting to discuss this behavior. Incentives Appraise from myself or the sub Stickers

Free time on Friday (take the last 10 minutes of class and they can play whatever game they would like) Small prizes such as a yoyo. Conflict resolution If there is a conflict between two students they will have 3 options. 1. Come together and talk it over with me so we can dissolve the problem right then and there 2. Sit on the sidelines to cool down and then come to talk to me and dissolve the problem 3. Go directly to the office if they are not willing to talk to me at all.

Motivation Intrinsic Confidence in their grade Good health Positive feelings about themselves Extrinsic Good grades Small daily rewards Stickers Students will also be motivated by the amount of respect that I give to them. If they feel like I am a caring person they will be more motivated to work hard for me.

Group Activity Expectations Team shake will be used to create teams or groups (this will make it fair- students will not think that I am cheating them over in any way). Squad lines will be created at the beginning of each new quarter ( I will use my discretion for this-if there are students that mess around when they are near each other I will be sure to not put them by each other). When in groups: o Students will participate in all group activities and meetings o If working on a group project there will be evaluations for each group member o Points will be deducted for horsing around during a group project o If the whole group is a distraction 3 times then I will split apart the group and form a new group.

Groups will be rewarded with a study hall if they get their project done and is their best quality work.

Non-Instructional Methods Entering the gym o Students will wait outside of the gym until myself or the sub goes and brings them in o Once in the gym the students will go to their attendance spots Exiting the gym o When done for the day students will line up at the day o I will have student grade their performance by holding up their fingers which corresponds with a phrase for how they did. o Stickers will be given to the students that earned them throughout the class. Taking attendance o Students will get in lines of 5 for attendance o Students will get in the same spot each day o I will quickly take attendance by seeing what spots are filled and what are left open. Starting cues o All games will begin with me yelling go. o Students will have to know to pay attention to when I say go and not just start right away when I explain the rules. Stopping cues o When I blow my whistle the students will know to stop what they are currently going and look to me for further instructions. Getting drinks o Students may get drinks before or after they come into the class room o There is a drinking fountain in the gym so they will need to ask a teacher if they can go get a drink when we are not in the middle of a game. Restroom breaks o Students will be strongly encouraged to go to the restroom before class is started o If a student does have to go to the restroom then they will need to get the hall pass and sign out of the class. o The students then have 5 minutes to be back in the classroom. Teaching area. o Teaching my take place in any part of the gym o When teaching is occurring students will put all equipment on the ground and pay attention to the teacher.

Equipment Use Equipment will be out when the students enter the gymnasium o Students cannot touch equipment until instructed by myself or my sub. o Equipment will be kept in neat piles or in a rolling basket so that it is not so appealing to student Improper use of equipment will result in sitting out for a certain amount of time. o The worse the crime the longer the time Equipment may only be used when instructed by myself or the substitute. All equipment will have its own container for example: jerseys in one basket and flags in a different basket. Equipment will be brought out of the equipment room as it is needed. (With less equipment lying around there will be less horsing around and there will be more time to focus on the task at hand). When receiving the equipment for the task at hand students will o Get into a single file line at the equipment o 2 students will be my designated helpers to help pass out equipment (this way it will get out faster and we will have more time to play). o Once they have their equipment they will get either into their own space or they will get with their team o Get ready to begin the game When putting away equipment the students will bring all of the equipment to me and place in nice piles and then they will line up at the door. Broken equipment should be reported to either myself or my sub as soon as it is seen to be defective. o Do not be afraid to say that something is broken-it gets used a lot and I will not be mad if it needs a little repair.

Communication with parents. Email It would be very simple to send out an email to parents I could tell the parent about any misbehavior in class, upcoming events etc. Monthly newsletters I will send home monthly newsletters with all of the students. The purpose of these is to make your whole family aware of healthy activities that are coming up. Letters from teacher This option is for the parents that do not have an email. I will be much like email except for it will be much slower. Facebook Have a teacher Facebook page and try to have all of the parents possible on there so you can get as much information as possible out to those parents and not have to write them a letter or send them an email
