Philosophy of Education My personal views on child development have been strongly influenced by two theorists Howard Gardner and

Jean Piaget. I am a strong believer in Howard Gardners multiple intelligence theory that states everyone may have a strong specific area that they excel in but most likely have many different intelligences. Being an educator we learn that each student learns differently and understands differently. Some students excel in certain areas where others excel in other areas. Howard Gardner is stating that each student has a different intelligence. Jean Piaget believed that children should not be taught a certain concept until they have reached the appropriate stage of cognitive development. I see this as, why proceed to the next level if the child still has not mastered the current one. Children learn at his/her own pace and understand differently. Piagets ideas have changed the way people view the world of children and how we study children. I agree with this also because no one really knows how each child learns. As educators we are taught to allow children to learn best by doing and actively exploring and making their own decisions. As an educator it is my responsibility to prepare my classroom for an environment that allows children to have the opportunity to explore every option for learning. I will provide a classroom that is culturally diverse, safe, nurturing, and include developmentally appropriate activities that allow each student to learn their way and be implemented every day. As a professional in the early childhood education field I will learn and grow every day. It is my mission to provide the best education using the NAEYC standards for each student that enters my classroom.
