Extenda-Bed
Background Info: Truck beds are a vital part of the American truck driver, but there some pressing issues with this piece of American ingenuity. People tend to have numerous with truck beds that are either too long or too short. This makes doing jobs, transporting things/objects, and having efficiency very difficult for the everyday truck driver. Numerous solutions have been proposed in order to solve this task, but the solutions have either been too expensive or not very easy to use. Purpose: We wanted to be able to provide an easy-to-use, economical, and sturdy type of truck bed that the everyday truck driver will be able to use. Equipment: Engineering Notebook Computer Internet Microsoft programs (Word 2010, Excel 2010, etc.) AutoDesk Inventor 2013 Power Tools (drill, screwdriver, etc.) Construction Materials (metals, wood, etc.) Track Wheels Model Truck (Generic)

Skills Required: The skills needed for this particular project are patience, good math, problem solving, willingness to communicate, some Inventor building, Excel & Word document creating, and critical thinking. Budget: We have a $100 budget to purchase both materials and other things that we shall need for the project. We plan on using part of this budget to purchase a model truck that we will do the product on due to time constraints, and we also plan on purchasing some additional materials if needed. Marketing Objectives/Target Audience: We plan to make this available to all truck drivers within the southeastern United States that have a regular 6 ft. or 8 ft. truck bed. Regulatory Issues: The issues that we are currently addressing are finding a 1/16th truck model that will be easy to work with and design around, the cost of some of the materials, and patenting of the other truck bed designs (no plagiarizing). Scope: The particular truck bed design that we have come up with will allow the actual truck bed to slide in and out of the cab of the truck. The consumer will be able to have both a 6ft. and 8ft. bed in one truck. Thus, consumers do not have to worry about what type of truck to buy in order to get a specific bed for them.

Problem Statement: ExtendaBed In the southeast of the

United States, 3.5 million truck drivers that use six foot truck beds find the bed to be too short for hauling equipment, and eight foot truck beds to be too long for normal everyday use.

The Miniature Truck Model: When it comes to deciding what type of truck to use for the model, we came across some options and tried to experiment with them. We finally came across the 1/24th model of a Ford f-150 Raptor. The truck bed itself can be detached and worked on while the rest of truck will able to be left alone. We plan on attaching a metal sliding mechanism to the tailgate. This will allow the tailgate to be extended outwards with a support system that is attached to the both the sides and the undercarriage of the truck.
