GEOGEBRA LAB:

1-Point Perspective

The objective of this lab is to make a room appear 3-dimensionally in a two dimension space. 1) Create three sliders with names: width, height and depth each with minimum value 0 and maximum value 5. 2) Place the vanishing point. Place point A in the graphics window. Point A will be the vanishing point for our drawing in 1-point perspective. Right click on the point to changes its Object Properties. Change the point size to 5 and its color to red. Go to the Advanced-tab and change the Layer to 9. 3) Follow these directions and use the diagrams at the right for reference. Place line BC on the graphics window. Construct using

point B as the center, type width when the radius dialogue box opens. Construct the intersection point D of line BC and the circle. Hide the circle with B as the center.

******************************************************* Construct perpendicular to BC through D.

Construct using point D as the center, type height when the radius dialogue box opens. Construct the intersection point E of perpendicular line and the circle.

Hide the circle with D as the center. Hide point C. ****************************************************** Construct perpendicular to DE through point E. Construct a perpendicular to BD through point B. Construct the intersection point F that is the fourth vertex of the rectangle. Verify that the quadrilateral BDEF is a rectangle. Drag slider width. DE should remain perpendicular to BD. Drag slider height. EF should remain perpendicular to DE. Hide all four lines.

*******************************************************

4)

Turn off labeling:

Go to OPTIONS Labeling, choose No New Objects

5) Create the polygon region BDEF Construct the polygon BDEF using the polygon tool Choose the polygon tool, select point B, then point D, then point E, then point F, then point B to close the polygon. Change the polygon color, if you like.

****************************************************** 6) Construct four rays with the initial starting point at A:

AB , AD , AE , AF

uuu r uuu r uuu r uuu r

Change the object properties of each ray to dashed. 7) Create a check box to Hide/Show these rays.

****************************************************** 8) Dilate the rectangle about point A by the depth scale factor. When the dialogue box opens type depth. 9) Hide labels for the points B, D, E, and F. Right click on each point and choose Show Label to hide them. 10) Right click on the dilated rectangle and change the opacity to zero so that you only see the perimeter of the rectangle. 11) Create the polygon for the left wall using points B, F, F and B as shown. 12) Change the color of this wall now if you wish. ******************************************************

13) Drag point A from the left side of the graphics screen to the right side of the graphics screen. Changing the perspective of the 3-D box we are creating. 14) Create the polygon for the right wall using points D, E, E and D as shown. 15) Change the color of this wall to the same color as the left wall.

******************************************************* 16) Drag point A so that it is behind and above the back wall as shown. 17) Create the polygon for the ceiling using the points F, E, E and F 18) Change the ceiling color. 19) For now we will leave the floor white.

*********************************************************** 20) Save this sketch as OnePointPerspective March 18 2014 21) Drag point A to other locations. Adjust sliders for width, height and depth to see how the room changes. Repeat this to see how your room looks from different perspectives. Look at it from above and below, left and right. Change depth to a value between 0 and 1 and repeat.
