The Florida Striders Track Clubs mission is to promote and educate the Clay County community by running and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. Established in 1978, the Florida Striders is an active supporter of teaching children to be healthy. Theyve established Run/Walk programs within Clay County elementary schools in
which children track the amount of miles theyve walked or run throughout the school year. The Florida Striders provide incentives when a child meets a certain mile count. Incentives include medals, shirts, key chains, reusable water bottles, and awards. The Run/Walk programs have had very successful effects on the children. Running has shown to strengthen immune systems, increase grades and attendance, as well
as increase attention within the classroom. The Florida Striders set out to make running fun for students but also for families. To help raise awareness and promote their mission, The Run to the Sun 8K on April 12th at 8 a.m. will benefit the Run/Walk programs. The Florida Striders membership exceeds over 1,000 members coming from singles, families, juniors, and seniors. A membership includes:
guest speakers, training clinics, running advice, scholarships for graduating high school seniors, and other benefits. A newsletter is also emailed to each member examining the past events and success of the club. Local sponsors include Orange Park Medical Center, Kohls, Sun Tire, Sonnys, 1st Place Sports, and many more. The Florida Striders set out to change the way the Clay County community lives one mile at a time.
