Rosemary Richards Scholarship SELECTION CRITERIA

Rosemary Richards was a proud feminist, unionist and educator. She was a respected leader, colleague and friend who played a crucial role in shaping the AEU as an organisation which reflects feminist principles. To honour these attributes and to ensure the Rosemary Richards Scholarship develops womens union participation with these principles in mind, the following Selection Criteria apply: The recipient must be a female financial member of the AEU. The recipient must demonstrate how their project will increase her skills and experience in the unions work at a state/territory/national or international level. The recipient is utilising the scholarship funds thoughtfully and productively. The recipient has demonstrated their commitment to the union movement and to advancing womens status and rights through a history of activism. The recipient has demonstrated a capacity to work with others and a willingness to develop leadership skills as well as a willingness sharing knowledge gained through successful participation in the scholarship. The scholarship proposal does not deviate from the general aims, objectives and policy of the AEU. The scholarship proposal is one which is explicitly devised for the purpose of such development, rather than one which may go ahead with or without the assistance of the AEU scholarship for women. The scholarship proposal explains how the project will benefit the members own union activism and experiences as well as any potential benefits to the union.

Application Process

Women members can apply by returning the completed nomination form to their AEU Branch Secretary (addresses are included on the form), clearly marked Rosemary Richards Scholarship. The Branch/Associated Body will then endorse the nomination/s they believe enhance local strategies/policies for women and should be considered by the Selection Panel.
