Introduction

You might go outside on a sunny day to roller blade. But even on a cold, winter day you can do and exciting activity like roller blading! Its ICE SKATING! Ice-skating is a winter sport that is super fun and exciting to learn. Even though it might take a lot of time to learn this sport, you will like it once you get started! Get ready to learn all about ice-skating!

Chapter 1

How to get STARTED

The first step is to buy ice-skates. Ice-skates are shoes for ice-skating. Of course you cant go on ice with normal shoes! The second step is to balance on ice. It might take a long time to learn how to balance on ice, but you will get used to it.

How do you balance on ICE?


You need some kind of position. This position is very simple. Your feet are on the ice, pointing in opposite directions. Your hands dont rest on your knees. Imagine that you were on a balance beam. What would your arms do? They would be at your

sides, lying vertically and straight. Once you get used to this position, you dont need your arms at your sides! You will balance normally!

Chapter 2 POSITIONS for Ice-Skating

The positions for ice-skating are very simple. Your arms are in a running position. Your arms have to be bent too! Dont keep them in front of you but keep them on your sides. Your hands follow your arms and they arent on your knees. Like your arms, your legs arent straight but they are in a slightly bent position. Your feet are slightly pointing forward and your feet of course on the ice. Your feet also follow your legs. As you see, these positions are easy and simple! Now you know the positions for iceskating!

Chapter 3 DIFFERENT Shoes for Ice-Skating

There are lots of different shoes in iceskating!!!! The shoes are called ice skates. There are shoes for figure skating and even for short tracks. The different shoes have different blades. Be careful! The blades are very sharp. On short tracks, they have extra blades. Different shoes may be for different activities. For fun, you could wear figure skating ice skates. It is very important to find the right size and the right shoes for you! Remember! There are a lot of different shoes for ice-skating!

Chapter 4 How To Play in an Ice-Skating TOURNAMENT


To play in an ice-skating tournament you have to be skilled. If you want to enter in a figure skating tournament youll have to learn tricks. For example: how to twirl, how to go backwards. For the short track speed racing, you need to ice-skate fast in order to win. Youll be playing against lots of other people you dont know or they might come from different countries! You have to try your best and think that you can do it. You have to practice a lot! It is very important to be thinking about whats going on!

Chapter 5 Famous Ice-Skaters


There are a lot of famous ice skaters in the world! One of them is Yu-na Kim. Yu-na Kim is a South Korean figure skater. She is the 2010 Olympic champion in ladies' singles, the 2009 & 2013 World champion. Agata Kryger is a famous Polish figure skater. She was first place in the Polish championship in 2012-13. She is also the 2013 Polish senior national champion. Joanna Sulej is a Polish figure skater that competed as both a single skater and pair skater. As a single skater, she was the 2005 and 2006 Polish junior national champion.

Hi! I am Gyeong Eun You, the author and I am from South Korea. My favorite activity is iceskating (Its kind of obvious)! I enjoy watching the short track speed racing in Poland, Warsaw every year near February. I have a sister who loves ice-skating more than me. She can iceskate for hours and hours. I started to ice-skate when I was 3 years old. I came to Poland in 2006. Now I am in fifth grade. I go to the American School of Warsaw. I live with my mom, dad and a sister who loves ice-skating.
