Fred Hollows was born in Dunedin, New Zealand on the 9th of April 1929 and had a mum a dad and two younger brothers and one sister. His mums name is Sandra. Freds middle name is Cossom.

Fred Hollows became a doctor and researched different types of eye diseases like cataracts and lots of nasty and bad eye diseases.

HOW DID FRED BECOME A DOCTOR

Fred gave away over 10,000 pairs of glasses and he was one of four children and he was older than all of his brothers and his sister and his mums name was Sandra.

Fred was recognised in many different ways for doing his well recognised work. His well recognised work is helping peoples eyes and making sure everyones eyes are well. H e was also recognised for training doctors so when Fred died then they could take over his job.

An eye doctor, also called an Ophthalmologist, is a medical doctor who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eye.

Fred was named Australian of the year in 1990 for his efforts to help others.

He was given a human rights medal, an Australian achiever award, made Australian of the year.

Every year thousands of people visits Freds graveside to pay their respects to this wonderful Australian. Fred died at age 63 on February 10, 1993. His graveyard is in Dunedin, New Zealand.
