Victor Chang was born in Shanghai to Australian-born Chinese parents in 1936. He came to Australia in 1953 as a Christian brothers college in Lewisham. In 1962 he graduate from Sydney University with a bachelor of medicine and a bachelor of surgery degree at St Vincents hospital. Victor Chang worked at St Vincents when he graduated from university.
