Rebecca Blasius EDC 240 Dr. Seals Management Plan Classroom Rules and Consequences Rules: 1.

Be respectful to your teacher, fellow classmates, and yourself. 2. Be prepared for class when the bell rings with all the materials needed to complete your work. 3. Do nothing that takes away from a students learning. 4. No talking when I am talking and raise your hand when you want to speak. Consequences that occur from rules broken 1. First offence: nonverbal warning- a look or walking near the disrupting student 2. Second offense: verbal warning 3. Third offense: a student- teacher conference after class or during lunch 4. Fourth offense: parent notification 5. Fifth offense: student - teacher- principal conference 6. Sixth offense: student removed from the class The students are to follow the rules and if a student breaks one of these rules the consequences will follow, but it depends on the offense. If it is a higher offense or an aggressive offense then the consequence will be higher. Students have the responsibility to be respectable individuals in the class setting and the teacher provides a list of fair consequences that will take action when a student breaks a rule. The rules and consequences are tools to teach students responsibility and how they can become future leaders in society.

Classroom Management, Organization, and Expectations Management and Organization: Rules and consequences will be announced on the first day of school. They will be posted in the front of the room and each student will be given the rules and expectations on their syllabus. This will need to be signed by their parent or guardian in the first week of classes. A seating chart will be assigned the first day of classes. The teacher will post it up on the board using the document camera, so this will establish order on the first day of classes. Lesson plans will provide variety to keep students engaged in the lesson plans. For example, there will be a lecture or discussion on the reading or material for the class period, then group work, individual work with guided practice, and depending on the class period some play-based learning. Lesson plans will be completed in advance with thorough analysis in enhancing my students learning patterns. All lesson plans are to build on one another, and help to give my students skills for their future plans, but also to guide them to perform well on state tests. Students will be quizzed, so they have enough opportunities to understand where they are in their learning. Also to help prepare them for future exams in the class. Part of my job is to help my students to improve in their writing, so they will have the right amount of skill set for future careers. They will write their rough drafts, peer edit other students papers, and have the opportunity to revise all their papers. Expectations of the teacher: The teacher is to be prepared for lessons in advance with a strong objective. The teacher is to provide a comfortable learning environment for students, and also a fun environment with a variety of activities to give each student ample opportunity to achieve a skill. The teacher is to remain professional and to stay on top of new learning styles. Multiple times the teacher will be available to help students before or after school. Also the teacher must understand that each student is at a different learning level, and is to do his or her best to help each student advance in their thinking and writing abilities. Many class periods will have a group activity because students need to interact with their peers. Students learn from interactions and students feedback will help their learning. Expectations of the student: Students are expected to not take away from another students learning opportunities. They are expected to be respectful to one another in the class environment. They are to be prepared for class, such as completed their homework or get materials before class begins. All students work will be returned with a grade. They are to listen to directions, but also to contribute their interpretations of the text to the classroom during class discussions. Also they are to participate in classroom activities.

Procedures and Routines: Beginning Class: Students are to collect the materials they need before class begins, such as pencils, paper, and text books. The teacher dismisses the class not the bell. They are to take out their notebooks and answer the journal question on the board. They should get their homework out and the teacher will come around with a folder to collect their work. This is a good way for the teacher to check which students have completed their work and which ones did not complete the homework. Whole Class Time: The teacher will raise points about the text and students are to participate and contribute their interpretations of the text. Grammar will also be looked at because English focuses on building stronger readers and writers. The teacher will model the correct way to write a sentence and the wrong way. Vocabulary- there will be weekly vocabulary list, so students can expand on their word choice. There will be different activities that will go along with this. Small Group Time: Students will learn to work with others and see the importance of gaining their peers feedback. They will peer edit in class, or make posters to show a unifying theme in the text, or work on sentence structure. Groups will be assigned and students are expected to be respectful to one another. Group discussions are to revolve around the task assigned, and each group member will be assigned individual roles in the group. Individual or Quiet Time: Most class periods will allow the student to work by themselves. Options will include working on vocabulary practice, sentence structure practice, their essays, or reading silently, but this will be assigned by the teacher. There is to be a minimal of talking because students are to be working on their assignment, but are also expected to be respectful of other students quiet time. If their assignment is completed before the time is up on individual work time, then the students are to work quietly on other class work or free read if they are done with assigned class work. Hall Passes: Students will be given a hall pass at the beginning of the year. They will have three passes available during the semester. They must present the hall pass and I will initial it. If emergencies occur they will be dealt with. These can be used for the bathroom, drink, or locker pass. Student Absences: Students that are absent are to collect the assignments from the poster board in the back of the room. They will have two days to complete the work from the day they get back. If they miss a quiz or test they are to come see me on making up this quiz or test. End of Class: The students will be assigned homework and they will be dismissed by the teacher. This can be found on the teachers website.

Classroom Discipline Minor Disruptions: Minor disruptions from talking when not appropriate, passing notes, or failing to not pay attention will be handled immediately by the teacher, so these instances dont escalate. The teacher will first give the look and make eye contact with the disrupting student. If this is not effective then the teacher will walk over to that students desk and the problem should go away from the nonverbal warnings. If not, then the teacher will give a verbal warning. If this takes place during independent or group work time then the teacher will tell this student privately that he or she needs to get back on task. It is important for teachers to protect students and not embarrass them, so verbal warnings are used sparingly in minor disruptions. If the minor disruption takes place during a lecture and if the nonverbal warnings do not work then the teacher will ask the student to contribute their perspective on the topic or to repeat the directions the teacher has given. On-going Discipline Issues: Consequences will occur depending on the situation and they will be assigned accordingly by the teacher. Nonverbal consequences have already occurred as warnings, so the teacher will be using verbal warnings to deal with these problems. The teacher will converse with the student privately and warn the student that this behavior is to stop. If this does not work then the teacher will contact the parents by phone or email on the students misbehavior, so the teacher and parents can figure out why this behavior keeps occurring. If it continues, the teacher will also schedule a conference with the parents, but if none of these solutions stop the problem then a principal- teacher- student conference will take place. Aggressive and Violent Behavior: If a violent situation occurs, the teacher will try to remain calm, and try to separate the students. The teacher will send a student to get an administrator or faculty member to help me to get these students to the office. Then the faculty member and the teacher will take the students to the office. The principal will determine the punishment for their aggressive actions. As the teacher walks them down, they will be informed that violence will not be tolerated in the classroom and the dangers that can occur from violence. These students will probably face suspension or expulsion from the school due to these violence instances.
