First day PowerPoint presentation with trainers note

Slide 1

Introduction: The Trainer Note: The trainer will introduce him or herself and tell them that the training program will be three days two hours a day. I hope that you learn and enjoy it. Lets start with know each other. Ask about the trainees name and their work experience of being diabetic specialist. Make each one introduce his self. Time: 10-15 minutes.

Slide 2

Icebreakers
Trainer Lecture Notes: Since we do not know each other even if some people do know each other I thought about to take a few minutes to find out something new about each other by doing two truths and one lie. Purpose: to think, meeting starter. Directions: give everyone a piece of paper and he or she has to come up with three things to say about themselves. Two must be true but one must be a lie. Then, the person will say the three things, the others will get to vote which of the 3 is a lie. It's amazing some of the things you learn about people. People want to try and trick others, so it encourages people to share some of the more outrageous things they've done. Example: The three things I could say about myself are, "I have never been in the beach. I love fish. And I am one of 10 children. The people will guess which of the three is not true. Then, when everyone has made their choice the person reveals the lie, "I love fish Materials Needed: Some piece of papers + pens Time: 25-30 minutes. I hope you have learned something about yourself and others.

Slide 3

Trainer Lecture Notes: Learning Objective for Training Program: There are some the important things that you should be learned in the end of the training program which are: 1) You will be able to activate the pump. 2) You will be able to connect the pump with the meter. 3) You will be able to attach the pump to diabetic body

Slide 4

The Trainer Note: Why the diabetic people are looking for an insulin pump? When the trainer asks this question make the trainees think about the answer for a second if they do not answer that you tell them the answer. The diabetics reasons for choosing the pump are many, but generally "pumpers" all agree that it gives them better control and more flexibility in terms of their schedule and lifestyle. This control and flexibility includes advantages such as: Eating what they want, when they want Explaining: as you know that the diabetic people need to eat three meals a day with two snakes and take their injection before each meal Worrying less about low blood sugars ("hypoglycemia") Explaining: With the insulin injection they may have low blood sugar easily when they have the insulin and do not eat ant they can stop the insulin work in their body Living their life normally no need to schedule of snacks and shots Explaining: no need to think about they have their insulin injection whenever they go. Also, they may forget to take it so the pump is the best.

Slide 5

The Trainer Note: How many diabetic people are using the insulin pump in the world? When the trainer asks this question make the trainees think about the answer for a second. The number of people using insulin pump therapy to manage their diabetes is growing rapidly; roughly 250,000 people around the world use an insulin pump and the number is increases.

Slide 6

The Trainer Note: What is the insulin pump? Insulin Pump Therapy the trainer needs to have the pump to explain and make the trainees look to the picture too An insulin pump is a small machine-driven device that is worn outside the body, often on a belt or in a pocket. It delivers fast-acting insulin into the body via an infusion set -- a thin plastic tube ending in a small, flexible plastic cannula or a very thin needle. You insert the cannula beneath the skin at the infusion site, usually in your stomach or upper buttocks. You keep the infusion set in place for two to three days (sometimes more), and then move it to a new location. All insulin is delivered through the infusion set. After we have an idea about what the insulin pump is what about to know different type of pump.

Slide 7

The Trainer Note: How many kind of the insulin pump are in the US? There are four kind of the insulin pump which are the following companies make or sell insulin pumps in the United States: Medtronic MiniMed Animas OmniPod (Insulet) Roche (was Disetronic) There are almost similar with small different technology; however the diabetic person has the chance to choose which insulin pump he or she like the most and more appropriate for him. We are going to talk about each one briefly to have an overview for all of them. Then I will show you all some catalog for the most popular three to look at.

Slide 8

The Trainer Note: First: Medtronic MiniMed: Medtronic has been advancing insulin pump therapy for more than 25 years, so that make it more popular around the world. It comes in 5 different colors as you see. Is powered by triple A AAA battery like all the other pumps. It is splash-resistant with the water that means it is fine for diabetic people to wear it while they are around some water like cleaning dishes and so on. It comes with one touch ultra-link Medtronic meter and the blood glucose readings can be wirelessly transmitted to the pump and recorded in the pumps memory that is great technology.

Slide 9

The Trainer Note: The amazing thing is: The Medtronic continuous glucose 24-hour care system, which is called a sensor that is changed every 3 days, and transmits glucose values to the pump every 5 minutes. It shows the pumper the direction and rate of change of the glucose level and gives alerts for high and low blood glucose. What do you think it is that amazing?

Slide 10

The Trainer Note: Second: Animas insulin pump: it called OneTouch Ping - the insulin pump and meter-remote that work together It comes in 5 different colors as you see The OneTouch Ping is not just splash-resistant- It is waterproof at 12 feet for up to 24 hours. So, they can jump in the pool or get wet without worry.

Slide 11

The Trainer Note: The amazing thing is: The one touch ping pump with the meter-remote does more than test the blood glucose and transmitted wirelessly to the pump. It also control pump functions. For example, they can deliver insulin from the meter. So, the diabetic people can hide their pump a way and control the pump with the meter. It is that amazing?

Slide 12

The Trainer Note: Third: OmniPod insulin pump: show them the pod and injection to The worlds first tubing-free insulin pump, the OmniPod insulin pump System is discreet and durable, wireless. With just two user-friendly parts that communicate wirelessly, the OmniPod Insulin Management System simplifies insulin pump therapy. The waterproof Pod integrates the pumping mechanism. Then show them the pod how it is looks and they can see it and have more idea about it.

Slide 13

The Trainer Note: They try to make it smaller to be more convenient for people to wear. Now we have an idea about the three different pumps. What about to look at these three catalogs I will give you a mint to look at it and have better understanding. Break time: 25 min Have something to drank or use the bathroom have soma air or go to smoke But please be here on time when you come back we are going to have discussion about what we have talked about today and we are going to know what you will know about for tomorrow.

Slide 14

The Trainer Note: Now what about to have small discussion about what we have just talked about After you all look at the catalog as hand out* Here they need open desiccation What do you think about each one? What do you think is the best from your perspective as diabetic specialists? Do you have any question that comes in mind? The three hound out *

Slide 15

The Trainer Note: Summary: We have been talking about why the diabetic people are looking for an insulin pump and how many diabetic people are using the insulin pump in the world. Also, what is the insulin pump and the different kind of insulin pump which are Medtronic, Animas, Omnipod and the amazing thing about each one. Then we have this discussion about it

Slide 16

The Trainer Note: Conclusion: After you know the different type of pump Tomorrow we are going to talk about how to connect the pump with a meter and sensor And how to connect the pump with the body I hope you will be excited about it. See you tomorrow have a nice day.

Second Day PowerPoint Presentation with trainers note

Slide 17

The Trainer Note:

The trainer should welcome they back the trainees and ask them How are doing all today? Did you have any question about what we had learned yesterday? Answer their question if they have any or tell them you will look at this question if you do not know the answer and make sure to tell them the answer tomorrow? Today will be awesome with some activities and I am sure you will like it. Frist I will remind you about our objective that we talked about yesterday.

Slide 18

The Trainer Note: Learning objective for training program: There are some the important things that you should be learned in the end of the training program which are: 1) You will be able to activate the pump. 2) You will be able to connect the pump with the meter. 3) You will be able to attach the pump to diabetic body However before we know more about the pump and how to connect it with meter and then with the diabetic body I want to ask you one easy question What diabetic people should know before they have the pump? Make them think about the answer than

Slide 19

The Trainer Notes: What diabetic people need to know before have the pump? The diabetic people need to know how to count carbohydrates (carbs) with a dietician. Some of them already know but you need to make sure before that they know how much insulin they need to take depend on how much carbs they are going to eat. That is important for them to make sure the can control they blood sugar. However, the pump will do that for them latter.. Also, know how to correct a high BG with input from a healthcare professional (HCP). Like for example when they blood sugar is 200 units they need to know how much insulin they need to take in order to make their blood sugar in a good level. These are important step and they will do some math with it. But the good news is with the pump they do not need to do math anymore because the pump will do it for them anyway.

Slide 20

The trainer Notes: How the pump is work? All the pumps are similar they have in the main menu: here each one of the trainees should have a pump to practice with and know more what we talking about 1) Basal insulin: The continuous amount of insulin delivered automatically throughout the day and night. This is called your basal rate. it helps them to maintain normal blood glucose ( BG) levels between meals and overnight. The long-acting insulin that you may have taken by injection before starting on pump 2) Bolus Insulin: The extra insulin that deliver when they eat carbohydrates (carbs) Or the insulin helps to correct a high BG. They need to bolus when they eat carbs and when their BG is higher than their target. There are two main types of bolus dosescarbohydrate boluses and BG boluses (correction boluses). Carbohydrate Bolus: The type of bolus that they take when you eat or drink foods with carbs BG boluses: the type of bolus that they take when their BG higher than the target.

Slide 21

The Trainer Notes: the may have the pump to practice each step: How the pump is work? 3) Utilities menu: is where they can setup: Time / Date, it is important to have the right time because the insulin will deliver depend on time. Lock keypad: when the keypad is locked only the status screen can be accessed. It used usually for who their parent control their pump Daly totals: is to know how much insulin the person takes in each day and how much left in the pump Connect devices: that when we need to connect the meter or other divsec like a sensor we will talk about in second to. Alarm: it is to control alarm history, listen to alert type, auto off, and low reservoir warning Alarm clock: is to set up an alarm, and turn it on or off Self-test: to make sure that everything in the pump is work as supposed to. Language: is to change the language. 4) Reservoir + set menu: is where they can change the infusion set: This part is when diabetic wants to change his or her infusion set they need to click to Reservoir setup. Fill Cannula it is when the put the infusion set in their body they need to deliver some

insulin form the cannula. History is to know how much insulin the person has for each day with exact time.

Slide 22

The Trainer Notes: How to connect the pump with meter? To link the meter, from the HOME screen on your insulin pump: Press ACT to access the MAIN MENU Use the DOWN arrow to highlight UTILITIES and press ACT Scroll to CONNECT DEVICES and press ACT Highlight METERS and press ACT Select ON and press ACT With the meter option turned on, you may add or delete up to three meter IDs. The meter ID is the serial number printed on the back of the meter. Programming each meter has unique ID links to the insulin pump. The trainer should explant and do it at that time.

Slide 23

The Trainer Notes: the trainer should show them how to do it than ask one of them to do it and explain it to other after that make each one do it by their own And ask them if they have any question about it. Than is good idea to check the blood sugar and see how the result is transmitted to the pump wirelessly.

Break time: 10 min

Slide 24

The Trainer Notes: How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? The trainer should have all the supplies ready to show them and do it after they see the picture in the PowerPoint. The supplies are the pump and infusion set and insulin and reservoir The first step is to gather the supplies you need. This example for minimed paradigm 722 insulin pump and it is the same with the animas pump too

Slide 25

The Trainer Note: How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? The trainer notes: than, they need to load the new reservoir with Humalog insulin. To do this I take it out of the plastic packaging, pull the plunger to the end of the tube, and then put the Humalog vile on the blue connecter. I then push the air from the plunger into the Humalog, and draw the insulin into the reservoir. Just like filling a syringe, only a big one. Once the reservoir is filled, they can remove the plunger. The plunger is just screwed in, so you just unscrew it.

Slide 26

The Trainer Note How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? The trainer notes: Take it out of the plastic, and take the paper off the cording. Now they are ready to attach the infusion set to their newly filled reservoir. Youll see on one end of the cording there is the needle surrounded by adhesive, and on the other end there is a round knob looking thing with a small needle inside. To attach the infusion set to the reservoir you take the knob end, put it onto the top of the reservoir, and turn it until it clicks. Once it clicks it is locked on

Slide 27

The Trainer Note: How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? The trainer notes: Now that the new infusion set it ready, they can rewind their insulin pump by press on reservoir set in the pump. Before they rewind it they will want to disconnect the old infusion set from your body. Once its done rewinding, it will notify you and you can take the old reservoir out. This is done by just unscrewing the reservoir from the pump.

Slide 28

The Trainer Notes: How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? Now you are ready to put the new infusion set into the pump. You just need to screw the new reservoir into the reservoir opening on your pump. Once its in you need to prime it by pushing a few command buttons on your pump. It will have prompts to guide you through. Priming means you fill the cord with insulin. You are done priming. When you see insulin coming out, the needle end of the infusion set. Once its primed, you can set the needle end of the infusion set into the quick-setter. Pull the needle cover off the needle, and the adhesive covers off the adhesive. Pull the end of the quick-setter back to spring load it. It is now ready to put on.

Slide 29

The Trainer Notes: How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? Now you need to cover the area you are planning to put it with IV Prep or alcohol. This disinfects the area and it is a little sticky, helping the adhesive stick better. Plus, I think it numbs the skin a little, but thats just a personal opinion! You just wipe the iv prep on with the cloth it comes on, and wait for it to dry. Now take the quick-serter and press it to your skin where you want the new infusion set to go in. Squeeze the buttons on the quick-serter and the spring loaded section will release and very quickly plunge the new infusion set into your skin. Remove the quick-serter. At this point the needle will still be in you.

Slide 30

The Trainer Note: How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? The trainer notes: than, pull the blue cover off (which has the needle in it) and the new infusion set is in! The needle is surrounded by a very thin, very short, flexible cannula that is left under your skin which is how the insulin gets into your system. The pump will guide them through which is just giving them a little insulin to fill the cannula.

Slide 31

The Trainer Note: How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? The trainer notes: the pump will say its ready to work! Than theyre done! That's all there is to it! The whole process only takes about 5 minutes. They need to change the infusion set and the reservoir with the pump every two to three days

Slide 32

The Trainer Note: How to connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in diabetic body? The trainer notes: the trainer should do the same step again by using the pump and the infusion set and reservoir and show them again to make sure they understand it and ask them if they have any question and make sure they fully understand it and can teach a diabetic people bout these step also, ask someone to do it and explain it step by step like what they saw in the PowerPoint. After they know the process of connect the Medtronic and Animas pump in a diabetic body.

Slide 33

The Trainer Note: How to connect the OmniPod insulin pump in diabetic body? The trainer notes: it is different because is a tube less watch this video 2 min.

Slide 34

The Trainer Note: Summary:

What we have learned today? How is the pump work? We talk about the main menu and what each part do in the pump and How to connect the pump with meter? We learn that and we practice did you now know how to do it for sure How to connect the pump with diabetic body? We know that the Medtronic and Amines are the same when is come to connect the pump with the diabetic body and we do it together and we know the different with the OmniPod insulin pump by watching the 2 min video..

Slide 35

The Trainer Note: Do you have any question for today? I still going to see you tomorrow the last day for this training program before I let you go I want to ask you an important question is : Can you teach the diabetic people to these steps? The trainee must response about this question: When they answer YES OR NO

If yes that great if no you will know to do so I am sure and we will practice tomorrow and have some fun with diabetic people they are coming over and we can teach them and learn from them too. Have a nice day.

Last Day PowerPoint Presentation with trainers note

Slide 36

The Trainer Note: welcome back and in the last day of this training program. How are you doing? Do you have any question for me today as I mentioned last morning there are some diabetic people join us for today lets welcome then ask them about their name and how long they have been with diabetic. And how long they have the pump and which kind of pump did they have why they chose this pump?

Slide 37

The Trainer Note: The trainer asks the diabetic people how much pump helps you to control your diabetic and ask them to share some stories about their life with diabetic? Encourage them to talk by asking them to tell us about the last time they have low blood sugar what did they feel or ask them about the thing happen to them because of diabetic and they will never forget this thing. Try to have some talking and make them feel comfortable,

Slide 38

The Trainer Note: The trainers ask them to show us how to connect the pump in their bodies and we may learn something new from their experience. Everyone has his or her own way to do it. Ask each different kind of pump to show us how to do it.

Slide 39

The Trainer Note: after they show us how to connect the pump again the trainer need to ask if diabetic specialist have any question about anything they want about the pump and we need to do like a round table and have open discussion about this topic.

Slide 40

The Trainer Note: Summary the trainer need to make sure that they cover the objective by list the objective and ask them did we cover this did we know everything about it Are you able know to train any diabetic person about any kind of pump when they need to so.

Slide 41

The Trainer Note: Now it is a time to evaluate this program in order to make it better for next session. And then give the evaluation and give them enough time to do it.

Slide 42

The Trainer Note: Conclusion and Ceremony of Graduation I hear I forgot I see I remember I do I understand and we all do in this training everything so you will go back to your job with fully understand this training and you will be ready to train those diabetic people who need to have a pump in you clinic. What about that what do you all think?

Hopefully you all understand this training program and enjoy it
