Nadine Fahmy, Ashby Iype, Maria Ton and Marina Tony Ultrafast endocytosis at mouse hippocampal synapses Hypothesis-

Researchers hypothesize that ultrafast endocytosis is specialized to rapidly restore the surface area of the membrane. Major Results- Researchers found that within 30 ms of the stimulus, docked vesicles were able to fuse and collapsed into the membrane. For the active zones in the active sites, it was found that compensatory endocytosis occurs within 50-100 ms. Also, the inhibition of actin polymerization were able to block the invagination and the inhibition of dynamin were able to block scission. Conclusion- Both kiss and run and clarthin mediated endocytosis were operational at the synapse. Ultrafast endocytosis is most certainly an evolutionary conserved process and that ultrafast endocytosis helps compensate for the membrane added to the plasmid membrane. This emphasizes that the membrane tensions were mediated by a relaxation in the lateral edges of both the active and endocytotic sites to create rapid communication.
