Classroom Management Plan March 2014

Artifact Description The following artifact is a classroom management plan. I created this classroom management plan as I observed and started teaching during my Pre-Student Teaching experience. I have created a plan for handling situations in my future classroom. The plan outlines rules, classroom procedures, crisis situation steps, and more. Wisconsin Teacher Licensure Standard Alignment This experience aligns with Wisconsin Teacher Standard five of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and Licensure Standards which states: The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self-motivation. This experience aligns with standard five because I was able to use my understanding of social groups and how they function to create a classroom management plan that allows for social interaction in order to facilitate learning. By creating an environment of cooperation, the plan Ive made will foster productivity in the social setting of the classroom. I was able to use the classroom management plan to create a positive climate in the classroom. By creating a positive classroom environment, the students can contribute to the overall climate of the school. My classroom management plan takes that positive climate and puts it in the hands of the students. It is the students role to continue positive peer relationships. I have provided the students the tools to continue such. In order to make all of these things possible, I have created a classroom management plan that is clear and helps to manage time management, engagement of students, and classroom procedures. As a result of this experience I am more competent in this standard because I have had the chance to put my classroom management plan into practice. I have been able to see the dynamics of a classroom and use my observations and my knowledge to create a plan that provides a productive, fun, and safe learning environment. I feel that such an environment is one of the most important tools to promote learning. UW-Platteville Knowledge, Skill and Disposition Alignment This experience best aligns with KSD2.c, Managing Classroom Procedures. This KSD states: The candidate values and has the ability to manage self-motivated students and instructional groups who are productively and independently working at all times with classroom transitions and routines occurring smoothly. The teacher, volunteers, paraprofessionals and students share the responsibility for the classroom environment. The classroom management plan I have created allows for a smoothly functioning learning

community in which students assume responsibility for themselves. The students participate in the decisions made in the classroom so they have a vested interest in their learning. The plan cultivates collaboration and independent studying. It is the combination of aspects of the classroom management plan that encourages students to engage in purposeful learning activities. I am more competent after this experience because I can observe what practices work with different levels of students. My classroom management plan will most likely depend on the levels of the students I will be working with. I am aware that having a plan in place is important in managing classroom procedures. Secondary KSDs KSD1.e: Designing Coherent Instruction KSD2.d: Managing Student Behavior KSD3.c: Engaging Students in Learning

ReflectionWhat I learned about teaching/learning I learned how important classroom management is to teaching. You have to set the tone you want in the class in order for the class to be productive. The environment has so much to do with classroom management. I also learned that there are so many different aspects to classroom management and creating an environment conducive to learning. You also have to know your students in order to truly create a plan that fits and works for them. This means that throughout the year, the classroom management plan will most likely change.

What I learned about myself as a prospective educator

I have learned how to create an environment that helps to foster learning. I like to be fun but always be in charge of the situation in my class. Having a rapport with the students is a huge part of my classroom management plan. Being able to relate to the students makes it easier for me to keep the classroom under control. I like having firm rules but being flexible with some is important too. I dont like the confrontation that can happen in the classroom, and the best way for me to avoid that is to have a clear plan in place for behavioral crises.
