Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection NAEYC Standard:

STANDARD 6. BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession. They know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood practice. They are continuous, collaborative learners who demonstrate knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on their work, making informed decisions that integrate knowledge from a variety of sources. They are informed advocates for sound educational practices and policies. (NAEYC, 2010)

Brief Description of Evidence:


As part of my ECED career here at Ivy Tech Community College, I have had the opportunity to earn enough credits in Early Childhood courses to complete all of the aspects and expectations needed to receive my technical certificate in this field.

Analysis of What I Learned:


Through receiving my technical certificate in early childhood education, I have learned many things from attending Ivy Tech Community College. I have a better knowledge base than what I could have ever dreamed of having through all of the courses I have taken and the professors that have taught me what I feel I need to know to go out and be successful in this career field.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:


By having achieved my technical certificate, I now have the ability to identify and consider myself as a professional in the field of Early Childhood Education. I have the ability to use and put the ethical guidelines into use on an everyday basis as well as meet other professional standards such as the NAEYC Standards, the Foundations, and Article 7. I am able to make informed decisions in the field, and know where to find professional, reliable, and valid resources within the community. I will continue to advocate for quality childcare and education throughout our state as well as keep myself as educated on all of the best, most sound educational practices and policies.
