Little (puin) i a little (puin, ceva) ca adjective preced substantivele desemnnd nume de materie sau abstraciuni (substantive folosite numai la singular): They know little English. (Ei tiu puin englez.) We are not so busy now, we have a little time for English. (Nu suntem aa de ocupai acum, avem puin (ceva) timp pentru englez.) Deosebirea ntre ele este c: a) little se traduce prin puin, indicnd o cantitate insuficient; b) a little se traduce prin ceva, puin, indicnd o cantitate mic dar totui suficient He has little spare time for his friends. (Are puin (aproape deloc) timp liber pentru prietenii si.) He has a little spare time Tuesday. (Are (ceva) puin timp liber mari.) Not: Att little ct i a little pot fi ntrebuinate i ca adverbe: He speaks little. (Vorbete puin, aproape deloc.) He speaks English a little. (Vorbete puin englezete.) Few i a few sunt adjective determinative sau pronume i preced substantivele folosite la plural: Few students are absent. (adjectiv) (Puini studeni sunt abseni.)
