STORYTELLING COMPETITION FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS

RULES AND GUIDELINES 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 1.2 Storytelling is an effective teaching and learning activity to help improve the standard of English among pupils. The Storytelling Activity / Competition will be carried out at school district / division state and national levels.

OBJECTIVES 2.1 2.2 2." 2.$ To enhance pupils! confidence in using English. To give pupils the opportunity to use English in an interesting authentic and creative manner. To enhance and improve listening and spea#ing s#ills. To instill pupils! interest in reading and writing in English.

RULES AND REGULATIONS ".1. The competition is open to all government%aided schools. &nly ONE contestant will represent his / her state at the national level. ".2 The competition is divided into two sections' Secti ! 1 Secti ! 2 "." ' ' (repared )mpromptu % "!# $t %#

*or Section 1 contestants are to observe the following rules' ".".1 Stories presented can be authentic adapted or originally written. ".".2 Stories presented must not touch on sensitive issues such as race religion stereotyping politics etc. "."." Stories must be thematically educational. ".".$ Contestants are !&# allowed to use the stand microphone provided to ensure minimal movement. ".".+ (rops bac#drops and sound effects are not allowed. Any use of these will allow for dis,ualification by the -udges.

*or Section 2 contestants are to observe the following rules' ".$.1 Each contestant pic#s an envelope containing a card. Stories told in Section 2 should not be a repetition or reproduction of any story presented in Section 1. Contestants will be dis,ualified if they do so. 7ote' The winners from the previous year may participate in the current year but the te3t and presentation must not be an e3act replica. This concept paper is valid until further notification or revision from the /inistry of Education and can be used at all levels for competitions organi5ed by the /inistry.
