What is the goal or challenge to be met? To which FEAP does this goal/challenge apply? Describe the context and the issue. My goal this semester was to improve in classroom management. The students in my internship classroom are constantly talking and it has often effected their instructional time. I think the students also had a hard time seeing me as an authority figure, so they would try to get away with things they normally would not with their teacher. I wanted to ensure that the students and I had a good relationship but that they still respected me as another teacher in the classroom. The specific FEAP is (2)the educator accomplished practices: the learning environment. What have you already done to meet this goal or challenge? I have resourced multiple classroom management techniques in the classroom this year. These techniques include sticker charts, classroom techniques, countdowns, and verbal warnings. I have also tried to be more assertive with the students so they understand that I, along with their teacher, need to be respected in the classroom. We still have fun and are not serious all the time, but they are beginning to understand when it is time to play and when it is time to work. I have discovered that rewards systems work very well when trying to improve behavior in the students. I have been rewarding good behavior with money in their checkbooks and time to read outside during independent reading. What feedback related to this goal or challenge have you been given by your Collaborating Teacher and University Supervisor? My CT along with my university supervisor have told me that I need to be more assertive with the students so they understand the importance of respecting and listening to me. They noted that the students misbehaved more around me because they did not think they needed to listen to me. What are your next steps? Include an explanation of a timeline for taking those steps. If your goal or challenge has been met, this may include a new goal or challenge. I feel as though I have successfully improved with classroom management and I just need to continue what I am doing to ensure I do not resort back to how I was teaching in the beginning of the year. I would like to also discover more creative classroom management techniques to use.

In what ways have you collaborated with your teacher to reach this goal or challenge? My CT has allowed me to take charge and practice any classroom management techniques that I came up with on my own. She has also allowed me to discipline the students using their checkbook" system. This has been helpful because I do not need to worry that I am stepping on any toes when I discipline the students. In what ways have you taken that feedback into consideration? I have discussed with the students that I need to be respected just like their teacher as well as resource different classroom management techniques in the classroom. I have not been afraid to try these techniques in the classroom like I was in the beginning of the year.

What evidence do you have that supports your process of meeting this goal or challenge? I have pictures of the checkbooks that the students have to show the system that the classroom uses. They earn and lose money based on behavior and then use their money to purchase things in the class store. A video from my last observation shows that I have also used countdowns to get the attention of students. With a countdown, I am able to get their attention and alert them that it is getting too loud and that they need to quiet down.

With your University Supervisor (and Collaborating Teacher, if needed), you will meet to discuss the progress you have made in meeting your goal and/or challenge.
