Replacing a door lock in bedroom


1. Introduction
So you find yourself in need of a new door lock for your bedroom. However, you have no idea on how to replace an old door lock. Do NOT panic. This manual will show you how easy it is to replace a door lock in bedroom. *The type of door lock mentioned in this manual is the following:

2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 2.6 2.7 Replacement door lock Screwdivers Hammer and chisel Safety glasses Low chair or stool Doorstop (Optional) Vacuum cleaner (or Broom and dustpan for a low budget alternative)

3. Procedures 3.1 Remove the old door lock by:


a. Remove the 2 screws on the face plate by twisting in the counterclockwise direction

b. Remove the 2 screws on the knob plate

c. Pull the handles off both sides

d. Push the faceplate and pawl out through the opening

e. Loosen the 2 screws on the strike plate; then remove the strike plate

3.2 Install the new door lock by: a. Sizing the new strike plate and pawl mechanisms with the holes in the door and door jamb

b. Pushing the new pawl mechanism and face plate into the door

c. Screwing down the pawl mechanism, making sure it is as level as possible

d. Inserting the handles into the door so that the square peg fits through the square opening and the screw holes align with the threaded cylinders on the other side

e. Inserting and tightening the screws that hold the handle

f. Installing the new strike plate

4. Remarks 1. Wear safety glasses when working with a chisel or rotary tool 2. Proceed slowly when removing wood. 3. Check to make sure that knobs are on securely and work on both sides before closing the door
