MEMORANDUM FOR Record SUBJECT: Letter of Recommendation for Courtney E. Brown

1. I have had the privilege of knowing 2LT Courtney Brown since last April when she first arrived to the Signal Officer Basic Course at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Courtney immediately separated herself from her peers through leadership and physical fitness. I asked her to serve as my Community Service Projects Officer due to her phenomenal planning and organizational skills. She eventually served for the duration of the course as my Physical Readiness Training Officer and served in an outstanding manner. There was not a single task given to her that she failed to accomplish. Courtney finished #14 out of 45 students all while balancing very demanding course work. She was a finalist for the prestigious Kilbourne Leadership Award and was the winner of the Iron Leader Award presented to her by the Battalion Commander. She is in the top 1% of Student Officers I have observed over the last two years. 2. As a testament to her abilities, Courtney has not stopped perusing her personal goals. Since leaving the course she has been teaching High School English in a challenging Special Education program and participated in three postgraduate courses and received a 3.8 GPA in the process. She continues to do great work for her US Army Reserve unit letting her stellar example shine through. 3. As a Major with 12 years in the United States Army and three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, I have come to understand leadership dynamics and teambuilding. I would ask Courtney to be a member of my team due to her intense drive, dedication, organizational skills, leadership, and the overall positive impact she brings to any mission or job. She will excel in any position in which she is placed. I would recommend a high endorsement of Courtney for a tenured teaching position at the High School or College level. 4. Point of contact for this memorandum is the undersigned at 910-364-6525.
