SL.5.5 include multimedia components (e.g.,graphics, sound) and visual displays in presentations when appropriate to enhance the development of main ideas or themes. H.6.6.35 Identify significant individuals whose lives impacted the civil rights movement (e.g., Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Stokely Carmichael, Medgar Evers, Little Rock Nine, Thurgood Marshall) E.8.6.2 Explain the result of increased productivity on an improved standard of living (e.g., assembly line, interchangeable parts, computers)

Lesson/Objectives: The students will Examine womans roles in the 50s and explain how they are different from now and how they feel about the roles that woman had. Create a presentation to present to the class about life in the 1950s. Activity: The students will read a magazine clipping from the 50s about what a womans role is. Students will do a quick write about how they feel about the article. Students will watch a PowerPoint and fill out a Venn diagram. Choice boards for 1950s presentation. Materials: Womans roles article, Venn diagram, Life in the 1950s PowerPoint, choice boards.

TimelineDevelop an illustrated timeline that explains different changes in the 1950s. You will be required to include twenty events with different levels of explanation. Newspaper OR radio AdPretend you are advertising a new product in the 1950s. You can either create a newspaper or a radio ad. Ex: computer Corvette TV Create a poem or song about something that happened in the 50s Board Game Develop a board game that teaches players about life in the 50s. Game must be creative, though it can certainly follow the format of an existing board game. Rules must be clear so that players of your designated age level can participate.
