Classroom Management Behavior Modification Intervention Plan

As fulfillment of the requirements for my ED 448 Classroom Management course, I had to create a Classroom Management Behavior Modification Intervention Plan. My classmates and I had to establish a school which was to be named after our instructor, Mrs. Yolanda Duff-Newsome, who also acted as principal for our schools, and create a school-wide intervention plan. Within this plan, we had to create a motto, theme, mission statement, principals message, school-wide procedures and routines for various settings in the school, as well as an actual discipline plan to be carried out in the entire school. Because I am a Music Education major (Choral P-12), I was offered the opportunity to create a very unique educational climate that catered specifically to the needs of academically and artistically inclined students. I immensely enjoyed this project because it gave a brief, yet detailed overview of what it is like to create an atmosphere where effective teaching and learning is to take place. Needless to say, if I when I am able to lift my VOICE in educational leadership, administration or curriculum, this is a glimpse of how I may fulfill such capacities. At the Duff-Newsome School of Visual and Performing Arts, our faculty and staff are dedicated to the development of a deeply rooted understanding and expression of the arts for every student. We strive to inspire our students to become selfmanagers of the mind, body and spirit. In order to wholeheartedly seek the fulfillment of this mission, we create opportunities for our students, faculty and staff to access the arts in various forms, and to participate in interactions that produce and present the highest ideals of academic and artistic excellence. Salutations: It is a most awesome blessing to greet you as the principal of the Duff-Newsome School of Visual and Performing Arts. We have quickly established a strong presence here in the area, and we are extremely excited to continue to build up such a rich and prevalent school spirit. This year, our focus is on helping our students present positive self-images through a deeper understanding and expression of the arts. Our theme, Lifting Our VOICES to Make Better Choices encourages us to: Vocalize Our Intelligences Culminating the Education of Self. Most students do, in fact, have high expectations for themselves, but need assistance in making sure those expectations are properly prioritized according to what is wise and good. I strongly believe that students will rise to whatever level of expectation you set for them. The key is that we unlock the doors of their hearts and minds by providing endeavors of enriched learning experiences. We look forward to an outstanding school year for the Polymath Family. School-Wide Procedures and Routines
All students must adhere to the Birmingham City School Board Policy Code #8111
Students will: 1. Be prepared to learn with a positive attitude and put forth their best effort at all times! 2. Be punctual and in attendance at school each day. Students are expected to be in the classroom by 9:15 a.m. 3.Go directly to their classrooms when they arrive at school (if not going to breakfast 4.Be prepared each day with the necessary materials - pencils, notebook paper, etc. 5. Be sure to fill out emergency contact card to the office as soon as possible so parents/guardians may be contacted in case of an emergency, 6. Complete all class work and homework assignments. NOTE: Students are asked to leave ANY AND ALL items that may create a disturbance or lack of focus in the classroom/school at home. In addition, the school WILL NOT and CANNOT assume any responsibility or liability for the damage or loss of any of these devices. *High School Students: Cell phones are permitted, but must be used during school hours.

School-Wide Morning Procedures and Routines
All students must adhere to the Birmingham City School Board Policy Code #8111
ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL 1. The school building opens at 8:45 a.m. The day begins at 9:15 a.m. each day. NO students may arrive before as 8:45am but should arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. Supervision will be provided for all students. 2. Car riders must use the front main entrance of the school building along Potential Boulevard. 3. Car riders who choose to eat breakfast should arrive before 9:00 a.m. Car riders who arrive after 9:00 a.m. should have already received breakfast and will be directed to class. TARDY POLICY 1. Student arrival is 8:45 a.m. 9:10 a.m. 2. A student is considered tardy if he/she is not in their classroom by 9:15 a.m. 3. When a student is tardy, he/she must report to the front office, along with their parent or guardian, so that they can be signed in to the school and receive a tardy slip. 4. Repeated tardiness could result in the student being returned to his or her home.

Walking on the right side of the hallways Keeping their hands and feet away from others and objects Staying where they are instructed to be at all times Students will be respectful by: Keeping voices down so no to disrupt other classes Stop, look and listen to adults Following directions the FIRST time Students will be responsible by: Using a hall pass while traveling Getting materials at prior to class and keep track of them

All students must adhere to the Birmingham City School Board Policy Code #8111

Students will: Be permitted to use the restroom during class time ONLY Leave class at an appropriately allotted time during class Obtain permission and a restroom pass. Go to the nearest restroom as quickly as possible. Make sure cleanliness is practiced at ALL times Students will NOT: Be permitted to use the restroom during transition time Leave during direct instruction, tests, or quizzes.

School-Wide Cafeteria Procedures and Routines
All students must adhere to the Birmingham City School Board Policy Code #8111

Students will do the following: 1. Enter and Exit the cafeteria in an orderly manner. 2. Use quiet voices in the cafeteria. 3. Choose food items quickly to allow time for others. 4. Sit at your class assigned table 5. Be sure not throw away any dishes or silverware 6.. Glass bottles of any kind are not permitted. 7. Only one visit through the serving line and one dessert per student allowed. 8. Clean your eating space before leaving the cafeteria. 9. Book bags and large jackets are not permitted in the lunch line. 10.Weekly assigned helpers will make sure their class table is neat and clean.

School-Wide Dismissal Procedures and Routines
All students must adhere to the Birmingham City School Board Policy Code #8111
Early Dismissal 12:30pm-3:30pm Students needing to leave school for an appointment must provide a note for the parent/guardian including: Date Name of the student Reason for the early dismissal Time of the early dismissal Name of the person picking up the child. (MUST be a parent/.guardian/person listed on the childs Emergency Contact Card.) Teachers Name No student can be picked up early from school every day of the week. Regular Dismissal 4:15pm-4:35pm Car/Van & Bus Riders/Walkers dismissed all dis missed at 4:15pm NOTE: Only students participating in an approved after school activity are to remain after school and must have written permission. Any student who remains after 4:35 p.m. will wait in the main office. Students who are continuously late being picked up or are dismissed early before the school day ends, the administration will contact the parent/guardian. Parents who leave their child unattended at the curb are putting their child at risk and are not following school safety procedures.

All students must adhere to the Birmingham City School Board Policy Code #8111 CLASSROOM RULES 1. All school district policies will be enforced. 2. Respect everyone and their belongings at all times. 3. Students may not use classroom computers, phones, and pianos during rehearsal time. 4. Please, no food, gum candy or beverage (except BOTTLED water) are allowed in the choral room during any rehearsal or any performances. Also, any other foreign objects are not permissible in your mouth. 5. When others are speaking/singing, you are listening
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES 1. Walk in the choir room ready to LIFT EVERY V.O.I.C.E. EVERY DAY! 2. Leave ALL personal belongings (purses, backpacks) on the bookshelves by the door. 3. Read the board upon entering the room. Students are responsible for all announcements. 4. Any student who is not in their seat when the warm-up begins is tardy and will need a tardy pass. 5. Class will consist of four sections everyday: Warm-Up: Mini Voice lesson for all students. always take this time seriously NEVER TALK, and participate at the highest level. Sight Reading: time is spent in training the mind, the eyes, and the ears to translate the written symbols on the musical page into something that is artful and beautiful. You will be tested frequently as a choir, in small groups, and individually. Do not rely on the person next to you. Theory/Ear Training: Simple exercises and short reviews of musical terms that progress to written exercises and computer tutoring. Section leaders and choir officers are ALWAYS willing to tutor you on the science and math of music. Repertoire Rehearsal: Learning, perfecting, and performing musical repertoire. Commit to singing at all times when your section is called upon to do so. When your section is not singing, study and audiate (mentally sing) your music. NO talking. Failure to participate actively at all times in rehearsal will GREATLY reduce your grade. 6. Have your materials EVERY DAY. 7. Proper posture, sitting and standing, as well as proper breathing is a must. 8. Please raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged. 9. Any items left in the choir room will be put in lost and found. Any folders left after rehearsal will be put in folder jail. Remember you must have all materials during all rehearsals. This is part of your daily grade! 10. The class is dismissed Miss Parks, not the bell.

Classroom Management Behavior Modification Intervention Plan
At the Duff-Newsome School of Visual and Performing Arts, we are constantly continuing our efforts to motivate our students to always seek after the highest academic and artistic ideals that that can possibly achieve. In doing so, every year we adopt a theme inspired by one of our many departments here at the school. Last year, the Dramatic and Theatrical Arts Department lent us their idea of Joining Voices, Hearts and Hands to Uplift Our Fellow Man. This year, the school has nominated our Vocal and Choral Arts Department to grace us with our theme and overall plan for the upcoming school year. As they delegated through much deliberation, they came up with our jazzy new motto, theme and plan for the new year.

Motto: V.O.I.C.E.S. Vocalizing Our Intelligences Culminating the Education of Self Theme: Lifting Our V.O.I.C.E.S. to Make Better Choices.

Lift Every V.O.I.C.E

Our intervention plan, Lift Every V.O.I.C.E., is designed to allow students the opportunities to use the power of their voice for the purpose of academic and artistic achievement. It is also set in place in order to discourage the abuse of the voice inside and outside of the classroom. Unnecessary remarks and improper volume levels may cause a chaotic learning environment. To measure how students Lift Every V.O.I.C.E, we have developed a system to evaluate the different dynamic levels students exhibit:
