Forest Park High School is located in Forest Park, Georgia. Fo Park is a small city south of Atlanta. Forest Park has a population of 21,825 people. Males - 11,224 Females - 10,601 Median Household Income is $32,991. Ethnic Population Breakdown: African American - 32% Hispanic - 30% White - 29% Asian - 7%

Forest Park is a Title 1 school. Forest Park has made AYP for the past 2 years. Forest Park High School has 1556 students. Forest Park High School has 299 juniors (project grade level) Forest Park HighSchool has 117 certified teachers. Forest ParkHigh School has 212 special needs students. Forest ParkHighSchool has 140 ESOL students.

Description of Site/Environment
Forest Park's Media Center is located in a separate building directly behind the main instuctional building. Forest Park's Media Centerhas 18,000 books in its collections. There are approximately10 books per child. Forest Park does usethe Dewey decimal systemthrough the Destiny system. This is a computer-based system that allowspatrons to search books by author, subject matter, and titles. Forest Park's MediaCenter does not have a literarycriticism database as of January 2011, ProQuestis no longer available, so we only have Galileo.
Lesson Plan
Day 1 Warm-Up: Who is your favorite poet and why? Guided Practice: Teacher will lead discussion about classic American poetry. Teacher will give a list of poetry terms that students will need to define. Terms:fixed form, free verse, ballad, sonnet, epic, ode, blank verse, and elegy. Day 2 Warm-Up: When you think of poetry what is the first thing that comes to mind? Guided Practice: Teacher will continue discussion about American poetry and move into modern day poetry. Students will continue taking notes on great American poets.
Lesson Plan
Day 3 Warm-Up: Out of all the types of poems, what is your favorite and why? Independent Practice: Students will review with teacher the fundamentals of poetry. Teacher will give out the instructions for the class poetry magazine project. Teacher will select student groups. Day 4 Meet in the Media Center Independent Practice: Students will work with group members on the theme(s) of their magazine. Students will search for some of the books on poetry that is located in the media center as inspiration and guidance. Project is due in 2 weeks.

Georgia State Standards for Reading: (ELAALR1) The student identifies and analyzes elements of poetry from various periods of American Literature and provides evidence from the text to support understanding; The student identifies, responds to, and analyze the effects of diciton, tone, mood, syntax, sound, form, figurative language, and structure of poems as these elements relate to meaning. The student traces the historical development of poetic style and forms in American literature.

Collections Evaluation
At Forest Park's Media Center, there are 319 books on the general topic of poetry. These books are in the 800 series of the Dewey Decimal system. They are located primarily in the non-fiction section of the media center. There are some pretty modern poetry books in the media center. Thereare poetry books that date back to the 1920s and 1950s and their physical condition is not the best. One of those older books is the Norton Anthology from 1928. Forest Park's media center has a reference section and some of the poetry books are located in references. The fiction is against the walls and non-fiction is in the center of the media center.

Multicultural - In my book list I have included a myriad of books of poetry that highlight minorities.Sincemy school is so diverse, it was important that my book list reflected that.
In Summary
I thoroughly believe that the selection of books I chose will adequately serve these students as they complete their poetry magazine assignment.
