The article gives you facts. It tells you the type of plot and where everything is located. It goes over the characters and themes and the technique of the author. It talks a lot about what the Japanese do and their culture. The article also tells you about the imaging that goes on in the story and how the story is very detailed. It is a credible source because it came from Short Story Series. It also will help me with my paper because it gives great information about the theme of alienation when I havent even thought about that being a theme. It gives me a different perspective on the story than what I am looking for myself. As for being bias it doesnt show any signs of it because there is no words like Me, I, and We.

Smith 2 This source might be my best source because of how much detail it gives me. Everything is spelled out to the T and if you think there might be a question that you need it answers it in the text. The subjects it talks about are the author, the characters the symbolism, and themes. When talking about the author they build up to the point where he wrote The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket, starting from when he first started writing. It also talks about the narration of the story being from and adults perspective when the story is about kids. The theme of the story can be many things and sub points for the main themes. The article talks about how the theme can be fate or love and individualism. I can take a different approach on the theme being individualism because during the story the boy was standing next to a bunch of people whom had the same lanterns as he did just designed differently but the author did not describe what the children look like. The children could be all Chinese. The article will help me write my paper because of the theme and style in the story. The article explains a couple themes and has facts behind them instead of being bias on what he thinks they should be. The article compared to my other sources is much better than the rest because there is so much on the story that you wouldnt think would be there because it is a short story. The goal of the article was to give you enough knowledge about the story to where you dont need to read the story. Having the story be from an adults point of view can also help me because it could have came from the kids perspective and if it did the story probably would have so much meaning behind everything that happened.

Smith 3 Kawabata, Yasunari. The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket. The Norton Introduction to Literature. Spencer Richardson-Jones. 11th ed. New York. W.W. Norton & Company Inc. 2013. 377-380. Print.

The book has the short story The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket in it. This gives me the full text and can give me some articles that can compare to this story or more short stories by the same author. If I need the topic of tone or theme then this article is good because thats the section it happened to be in. This source compared to my other sources is number one on my list because thats where the story is. If I need to check something or go over what the author said I could just turn the page to the story. The article is definitely not bias, it only gives stories and facts about the story and other stories. The goal was to teach the difference between tone and theme.

Smith 4 Overview: The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket. Short Stories for Students. 2010. Literature Resources from Gale. Web. 3 April, 2014.

The article talked about the author and his past life like other stories written by the Yasunari Kawabata. It gives good detail about the plot of the story. The article names the important characters and explains their part in the story. Then it goes on to talk about the narration of the story and how it is from Yasunari Kawabatas perspective. The source gets straight to the point compared to my other sources. It is like a summary of the book all in one and it also came from the database of Literature Resources from Gale. The source will help me because it explains the plot better than my other sources. I dont believe it is bias but the character information and the narration information look like it is the same as The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket.

Valentine, Rebecca. Critical Essay on The Grasshopper and the bell Cricket. Short Stories for Students. 2010. Gale Cengage Learning. Web. April 7, 2014.

The main point in this article was the values of Japanese culture. The author talks about Kawabata and his writings and how they compare to each other. The author also tells how each of the writings she mentions has aesthetic principles. Then she goes in to talk about nature and naturalism as important values. The author basically had to criticize and compare Kawabatas writings and make everything factual.

Smith 5 From this article I can get a lot out with the tradition and use it for how I analyze my story. My story will be analyzed by cultural studies which just says how the author relates to the culture he put in The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket. My other sources do not have as much detail that she does about the tradition of Japan. It is not bias and is a credible source because it comes from Gale Virtual Reference Library. I believe the goal of the article was to say the author is traditional man who comes from a cultural area and he shows it in his writings. My favorite quote the author used was For kawabata, the novel was a grasshopper; the short story was the bell cricket because she uses the moral of the The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket to compare a novel to this short story.
